Under the baton of Sia Swee Suan, the TKGS Symphonic Band has won eight Gold Awards in the Singapore Youth Festival over the past eighteen years. It was also awarded the "Best Secondary School Concert Band of the Year" title in 2001. In 2009, the Band was awarded its first Gold with Honours Award at the Singapore Youth Festival. The Band has also been a participant of the National Band Competition
since 2006, clinching the Gold Awards (First Division) consistently. It has been invited to perform at numerous public concerts in Singapore and overseas, including the Band Fiesta and Limelight which feature top school bands in Singapore. Over the years, the Symphonic Band has been enriched through cross-cultural exchanges with musicians from the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. Local artistes and musicians have also conducted workshops and master classes for the Band to sharpen their skills. The biennial concerts and other performances provide the Band with the opportunities to showcase these skills. Since 2005, the Band has been travelling to various parts of Japan, having musical exchanges and concerts with high schools such as Nakamura Gakuen Girls High School, Aichi Meiden High School, Katakura High School, Yodogawa Technical High School and Saitama Sakae High School.
