Dastak Theatre & Film fest A multicultural Theatre and Film Festival showcasing plays and short films

30/12/2025

Wrapping up this year with deep gratitude and a project that was truly close to our hearts. 💧

Dastak Paani was more than a festival; it became a collective reflection on water, youth voices, and the power of art to create meaningful change. This video brings together our mentors, sharing their insights on what Dastak Paani stood for and the journeys it inspired.

Our heartfelt thanks to every mentor, student, collaborator, partner, and supporter who believed in this vision and helped bring it to life. Your trust and commitment made this possible.

As we close this chapter, we look ahead to 2026 with renewed purpose, more creativity, deeper collaboration, and an even stronger commitment to sustainability. Reel credit :

Dastak Paani presentation Title: Life Through Hands
Mentor: Parvez
Life Through Hands is a powerful visual installation that places two contrasting hands side by side, one hydrated, full, and alive; the other dehydrated, cracked, and fragile. Through this simple yet striking imagery, the installation becomes a metaphor for humanity’s relationship with water.
The hydrated hand represents abundance, care, and conscious stewardship. It symbolises life sustained, where water is respected, conserved, and shared responsibly. In contrast, the dehydrated hand speaks of neglect and exploitation, reflecting regions facing water scarcity, drought, and the irreversible consequences of misuse.
Hands were chosen deliberately as the central motif—they are instruments of creation and destruction alike. They nurture, build, waste, and consume. By focusing on hands, the installation asks a direct question: What are we doing with the resources placed in our hands?

Life Through Hands ultimately serves as a quiet yet urgent reminder—our future depends on the choices we make today. The same hands that allow life to flourish can also let it slip away.

Dastak Paani presentation. Mentor Prashant Desai ‘The Dam’
There was once an engineer and he was involved in the building of a dam amongst beautiful natural surroundings in the hills. During this time he meets a local person and the two developed a wonderful friendship. Along the way one of them betrays the other’s trust and there’s a rift in the relationship. This a metaphor for the dam which develops a breach and gives way, is completely destroyed taking with it the surrounding nature. However with the passing of time nature is restored to its original glory. Picture Credit@ Metamount films

title: Jala Janani mentor: .studio
This artwork portrays the sacred duality of water—as both creator and purifier. The pregnant figure standing in the ocean symbolizes Jala Janani, the Water Mother, from whom all life begins. The pure stream emerging from her womb represents the future: life, health, and hope. Water is also shown as a spiritual purifier, echoing cultural beliefs where it cleanses both body and soul. However, the image confronts a harsh reality—the very source of life is under threat from pollution and neglect. Through this visual plea, the artwork calls for water activism, urging us to protect water at its origin. If we fail to preserve its purity today, we risk losing both our future and the sacred power of water to sustain and cleanse life. Photo credits Venue Scrap fabric

One of the sweetest highlights of Dastak Paani was the beautifully curated film lineup on Paani (water). 🎬💧
From student shorts to art house films to documentary films, each screening sparked such thoughtful conversations. A little community coming alive right in the distillery room.

Huge love to for putting together this incredible selection. Couldn’t have asked for better collaborators. 💙✨ venue : Photo credit: # Vishwamitri #
