ELECTROMAGNETIC OBJECTS
In this audio-visual performance Electromagnetic Objects (Brian O’Reilly and Andreas Schlegel) trace the collapse of a degrading ecosystems utilising flickering light structures, interactive moving-images, amplified audio textures and abstract analog electronic music. This audio-visual performance will feature electro-acoustic instruments, custom-built interfaces and real-time generated images. Visuals are projected onto a large projection screen, both performers in front operating gongs, electronics, synths and code on the spot.
Andreas Schlegel works across disciplines and creates artifacts, tools and interfaces where art meets technology in a curious way. Many of his works are collaborative and have been presented on screen, as installation, workshop or performance. His practice is concerned with emerging and open source technologies where outcomes are driven by computation, interaction and networked systems. Currently Andreas lives and works in Singapore, where he teaches across disciplines at LASALLE College of the Arts and coordinates the college’s Media Lab. His work at the lab is practice-based, collaborative and interdisciplinary in nature and aims to blur the boundaries between art, design and technology.
Brian O’Reilly works within the fields of electro-acoustic composition, sound installations, moving images and noise music. Also he is a contrabassist focusing on uncovering the inaudible textures and hidden acoustic microsounds of his instrument through the integration of electronic treatments and extended playing techniques. In addition to his work with Electromagnetic Objects he also plays modular analog synthesizer and generates visuals in the duo Black Zenith and contrabass & electronics with the noise-jazz group Game of Patience. Currently he is a senior lecturer at LASALLE’s College of the Arts School of Contemporary Music, with a research focus on electronic music composition, visual music and creative music making techniques through the use of improvisation.
