Origin:
In the beginning, when a group of Subanen were looking for a lace to settle in-both safe from the Moro marauders who were out for plunder and slaves and from where they could derive a a living for their families and tribes; when after moving from one place to another place looking streams wriggling in the pain and sufficient water supply, they decided to settle in that "BOG" (the sub
anen word for second growth forest which means the same as the Cebuano-Visayan "buog" hence the name BUUG. Leadership always play significant role in the settlement, development and growth of Buug. This was prerogative of the timuays and was exercised by them during the early days. The able leadership of the successive timuays, Buug grew into a thriving community attracting those from far places such as: Lapuyan in the east and different pplaces in the north as far as Zamboanga Del Morte, tocome and settle therein. Then a school was opened, In the beginning there were only Subanen, then a trickle of Cebuano's and other Visayan. First by individuals then by families and finally, the flood of settlers poured in when the Samar Mining Company (SAMICO) opened the Sibuguey Project BObuan (now part of the daughter Municipality of Bayog) in 1957 and the work on the Pagadian to Zamboanga National Highway reache Buug the following year. But the deluge of new comers really happended when Buug was created into a municipality through the work of Quirino M. Gonzales, Then history began to happen in Buug.
