Pursuant to Executive Order No. 2025-063 by City Mayor BENJIE MIRANDA, classes in all levels, both public and private schools in Kabankalan City, are CANCELED for tomorrow, November 3, 2025.

This measure is being implemented to ensure the safety and well-being of all students and teaching personnel in light of the heavy rains and strong winds expected from Typhoon Tino.

Let us all stay safe, stay indoors, and remain alert for further advisories.

DID YOU KNOW?

During the "sugar rush" era in Negros Occidental, Kabankalan became a major player in agro-industrial development! The establishment of the Southern Negros Development Corporation (SONEDCO) in the late 60s and the Dacongcogon Rice and Sugar Mill, Inc. (DRSMI) in the early 70s provided local sugar farmers with milling factories. This motivated them to expand their sugarcane fields, positioning Kabankalan as a bustling hub of business and trade in Southern Negros!

ANNOUNCEMENT

Following the advisory issued by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) early morning of 01 September 2025, work in government offices and classes at all levels in certain areas of the country, including Negros Occidental, are suspended today, 01 September 2025.

To ensure that critical services for our fellow Kabankalanons are not disrupted, all City Hall offices and units engaged in health, social welfare, disaster response, public safety, and other essential functions shall remain fully operational.

Meanwhile, other City Hall offices shall operate with a skeleton workforce to provide continued support, especially for those requiring urgent assistance.

All concerned offices and personnel are reminded to take necessary precautions and monitor updates through official channels.

“𝐃𝐎𝐆 𝐖𝐀𝐋𝐊” 𝐁𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆𝐒 𝐅𝐔𝐍 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐅𝐔𝐑 𝐁𝐔𝐃𝐃𝐈𝐄𝐒 𝐓𝐎 𝐅𝐀𝐑𝐌𝐄𝐑𝐒’ 𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝐂𝐄𝐋𝐄𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍

The City Veterinary Office and its staff hosted a lively Dog Walk Competition during the Farmers’ Day Celebration on July 27, 2025 at Kabankalan Cultural and sports center (K-CENTER), as part of the 28th Charter Anniversary and Udyakan Festival 2025. The event brought together pet lovers and spectators for a delightful showcase of talent, style, and the special bond between dogs and their owners.

Judges evaluated participants based on owner-dog coordination, behavior, grooming, presentation, creativity, and audience impact, ensuring a fair and entertaining contest. From smooth leash handling and well-groomed coats to eye-catching costumes and audience charm, each pair gave their best performance on the runway.

In attendance during the event were Ricky Muscosa, Acting City Agriculturist, and Dr. Anselmo Perez Jr., DVM, City Veterinarian of the Kabankalan City Agriculture and Veterinary Services Office.

Winners of the Dog Walk Competition:

• 1st Place – Jomar Monton with “Kidlat,” Belgian Malinois, Male, 2 years old – ₱3,500

• 2nd Place – Miles Faulve with “Zaide,” Shih Tzu, Female, 2 years old – ₱3,000

• 3rd Place – Israel Artesano with “Rott,” Rottweiler, Female, 4 years old – ₱2,000

Special Awards:

• Best in Dress – Ricky Solomon with “Whity,” Japanese Spitz, Male, 2 years old

• Falcor Choice Award – Kim Castel with “Kiba,” Golden Retriever, Male, 1 year old

• Yum Yum Choice Award – PJ Tirambulo with “Tangol,” Belgian Malinois, Male, 3 months old

SRA Chief Paul Azcona was honored with the distinguished Excellence Bulawanon Award for his remarkable service to the public during the Bulawanon Awarding Ceremony held today, August 1, 2025, at Zaycoland Hotel and Resort.

Mayor Benjie Miranda and Vice Mayor Divina Miranda personally presented the award, commending Azcona’s dedication and leadership.

In his acceptance speech, Azcona reflected on his family’s deep-rooted tradition of public service. He shared stories about his grandfather, the late Pablo Sola, who served as Kabankalan’s mayor from 1968 to 1982, noting how his example inspired him to always put the welfare of the city first.

“Serving Kabankalan is a family tradition,” Azcona remarked. “My grandfather taught me that the city’s progress must always come first, and I live by that principle every day.”

The ceremony also honored other distinguished individuals and groups for their excellence and commitment to Kabankalan’s growth:
