💭Who’s Rivermaya?
Rivermaya is one of the most influential and iconic alternative rock bands in the Philippines, having spearheaded the 1990s Philippine alternative rock explosion. Formed in Metro Manila in 1994, they are among the highest-selling OPM (Original Pilipino Music) artists in history.
The Core LineupsThe band has famously undergone numerous major transformations and lineup shifts over its decades-long career:The "Classic" Lineup (1994–1998): This is the group's most famous and beloved era. It featured Bamboo Mañalac (lead vocals), Rico Blanco (keyboards, guitar, primary songwriter), Nathan Azarcon (bass), and Mark Escueta (drums).
Original guitarist Perf de Castro was also a vital part of their self-titled debut album. They released massive, culture-defining hits like "214", "Kisapmata", "Ulan", and "Awit ng Kabataan".The Rico Blanco Fronted Era (1998–2007): After Bamboo migrated to the US (and later returned to form the band Bamboo), Rico Blanco stepped up as the sole lead vocalist. This era produced major anthems such as "Elesi", "Umaaraw, Umuulan", and "You'll Be Safe Here", cementing their status across Asia.
The Current Lineup: Today, the official pillars of the band are original members Mark Escueta (drums/vocals) and Nathan Azarcon (bass/vocals). For their active touring lineup—including their recent international concerts—they perform with regular touring session musicians Dan Billano (vocals/guitar), Clint Caballero (guitar), and Aiman Borres (keyboards).
