Founded in 1996 with only three weavers—the mother, brother, and sister-in-law of Arlene Tumbocon—La Herminia Fibers and Loom from Aklan has grown into a thriving handloom enterprise. In its early years, the group relied on traditional bamboo handlooms. Today, they have progressed to using multi-harness looms, enabling them to create more intricate and sophisticated designs such as sinuksuk, tablero ringgi, and double weave patterns.
La Herminia Fibers and Loom produces high-quality handwoven fabrics using indigenous and natural materials, including piña, abaca, cotton, and silk. Each textile reflects both technical skill and deep respect for local weaving traditions, while also adapting to contemporary design sensibilities.
Even before joining the National Arts and Crafts Fair (NACF), the group actively participated in other government-supported fairs such as Manila FAME, where they not only sold their products but also conducted live weaving demonstrations to educate the public and promote Philippine weaving heritage.
La Herminia Fibers and Loom is especially grateful for the opportunities provided by the National Arts and Crafts Fair, which offers participating artisans free booth space, accommodation, and meals. This support allows the weavers to retain their earnings in full, directly benefiting their livelihoods and encouraging the continued practice of traditional weaving in Aklan.
