The Brown Back Battlers
The beaten finalists last year, The Brownbacks were my red rot favourites coming onto 2025’s edition of the tournament.
However, they have been through a bit of adversity of late. Plagued by injury, with only 3 of the six from last year available for selection. They have had to call in some youth in the form of Fletch and Luke to get them through Sunday.
They have the advantage of a tour together were the core of the team play a charity match on the Basin Reserve.
Layne Kerr (chip), gave himself 2024 to take in the vibes of the tournament as a spectator and will be on the wicket this year with a head full tactics, this is a well planned assault from the cunning devil.
With some injection of youth, the could still be the team to beat.
The team.
Douchy: Deceptive pace with the ball. Majestic batsmen not too dissimilar to the great Richy Richardson. About the same age just a lighter shade of black and wears a smaller box.
Shiltz: Used to hitting a small white ball. Coming off some impeccable form on his debut at the Basin, will be looking to continue where he left off. Something tells me the flukey bastard will be in the runs again.
Chip: Has asked if he can bat with a dragon boat paddle, not sure of the ruling on that one. Chip will inject a wealth of cricketing knowledge and will be the "go to man" if Lewis Duckworth comes into play.
Fletch: Can be described in a few words. KEEN AS. Douchy's young fulla has bowled so many balls in the back yard the run up is now a 2 meter trench.
Luke (little Peasy): Drives a cricket ball better than he drives a John Deere. Coming off a 2 year spell from Saturday cricket, a couple of throw downs and he'll be back to his best.
Bazz: Slow in the outfield, slow in general really. Has the unique ability to drop 95% of catches that come his way, even after eye surgery. By far the weakest link.
