What if! So much potential wasted…..

What a couple weeks!

Plenty of work with the moisture that came earlier this month…..but time for a beer and some cricket!

We are all go for Sunday. Six Teams. Round Robin. Semis. Final. Who takes the trophy home!

The Wicket Whisperers are back this year to defend last years title but are different looking team with out Bolger. He’s on a world tour with his new boy band “love sucks”.

Darts are coming in hot. Full of confidence and stacked with ability. They will be looking for strong leadership from Gavin, who is convinced he should if had the best batter award last year, and the super excitable Alistair will be looking to relive his youth. They will hungry for a trophy, but will settle with a win over our local hero’s Peekys Blinders. 2 from 2 for the Kio Kio boys.

Peeky’s Blinders look strong this year…..Blind Baz comes into the team this year after his sabbatical, and will anchor behind the big hitting Ra and the tenacious Jono, to provide some much needed mental fortitude. Watch out for the only girl in this year’s tournament, Moana, who is a very talented cricketer and too young to get into the brown frothies…..could prove to be a big play from the Blinders!

Team Gold return from Te Awamutu keen to build on there effort two years ago. They will be relying experience and optimism, fuelled by to***co and Cody’s 7%! Do not be fooled by there relaxed demeanour….they are there to win….or something.

New to the crease this year is Above the law. The unknown’s of the 2026 tournament. I assume the Hamilton family will bring the backbone of the attack and the infamous Mr Mac bring some cricket nous….he has some insight into the wicket which could prove beneficial….but probably not! They asked for an easy game first up, so I changed the draw and threw them a hospital pass….hope they bring a box!

The Master Batters come into this year tournament red hot favourites. They were filthy last year after not getting past the semis…..and will be looking to go the full distance and lift the trophy. The young fellas will be keeping a close eye on the scorers tent and making sure those extras go in the right column! No Pressure 🥵!

Get on down to the MCG on Sunday. BYO refreshments. Support the school BBQ and auctions.

Enjoy some much needed community fun.

The Brown Back Battlers

The beaten finalists last year, The Brownbacks were my red rot favourites coming onto 2025’s edition of the tournament.

However, they have been through a bit of adversity of late. Plagued by injury, with only 3 of the six from last year available for selection. They have had to call in some youth in the form of Fletch and Luke to get them through Sunday.

They have the advantage of a tour together were the core of the team play a charity match on the Basin Reserve.

Layne Kerr (chip), gave himself 2024 to take in the vibes of the tournament as a spectator and will be on the wicket this year with a head full tactics, this is a well planned assault from the cunning devil.

With some injection of youth, the could still be the team to beat.

The team.

Douchy: Deceptive pace with the ball. Majestic batsmen not too dissimilar to the great Richy Richardson. About the same age just a lighter shade of black and wears a smaller box.

Shiltz: Used to hitting a small white ball. Coming off some impeccable form on his debut at the Basin, will be looking to continue where he left off. Something tells me the flukey bastard will be in the runs again.

Chip: Has asked if he can bat with a dragon boat paddle, not sure of the ruling on that one. Chip will inject a wealth of cricketing knowledge and will be the "go to man" if Lewis Duckworth comes into play.

Fletch: Can be described in a few words. KEEN AS. Douchy's young fulla has bowled so many balls in the back yard the run up is now a 2 meter trench.

Luke (little Peasy): Drives a cricket ball better than he drives a John Deere. Coming off a 2 year spell from Saturday cricket, a couple of throw downs and he'll be back to his best.

Bazz: Slow in the outfield, slow in general really. Has the unique ability to drop 95% of catches that come his way, even after eye surgery. By far the weakest link.
