17/02/2026

Anei ngā kōrero i ētahi mema hapori a Kōrero ki Ōtautahi!

Forgive my totally basic filming and editing skills, I'm still learning lol.

Mihi mahana to all those who came.

If you haven't seen Mārama yet, it's still showing in cinemas and at Alice Cinema & Film Specialists

I was lucky enough to get to see the NZ premiere of Mārama tonight for Terror-Fi's secret screenig at Alice Cinema & Film Specialists. Epic to say the lease. Short review below.

Gothic. Māori. Utu. Yaaaaaaaaasss. I don't write reviews so much anymore, but I couldn't pass it up after seeing the New Zealand premiere of Mārama tonight for the secret screening of Terror-Fi! Not at all the typical New Zealand horror - not a comedic bit in sight. And I am here for it. Ariaana O...

Kei konei te rā whakamutunga!

The final day of Mātaki Mai 2025 is upon us. It's been an amazing te wiki o te reo Māori, with so many varied kaupapa happening all over Ōtautahi - it gives me so much hope for where we are moving, despite the three-headed taniwha that keeps trying to beat us down.

E kore e mimiti te aroha mō koutou - I appreciate you all so much for all the tautoko everyone has shown by coming along to our films, supporting local and uplifting our reo rangatira.

Nāia te mihi nunui ki a Alice Cinema & Film Specialists - the team at Alice have been amazing and we love working with you to bring this week together.

Just a couple of tickets remaining for our closing event, with kai, inu and whakawhanaungatanga before the film and a Q&A to follow. Hope to see you there.

It's already been a crazy few days of te wiki - ngā mihi nui to everyone who has shown up so far, but we're not even half way!

In all the craziness, I didn't realise I still have a double-pass to give away for tomorrow night's screening of the Marlon Williams doco! How to win - the first person to find me (Tarryn) tonight at the Kōrero ki Ōtautahi / No Lights No Lycra Christchurch collab event and tell me what your favourite waiata is off Marlon's new album. Woohooo I'm back!

We're excited to be bringing The Dead Lands back to the cinema, with support from HAPA.

I haven't seen this since it first hit the cinemas back in 2014, so excited to be spending my Friday night during Te Wiki o te Reo Māori with this!

The best thing about it, 11 years ago I didn't have my reo and now I do, so it's going to be like watching it for the first time all over again 🥹

Life has been a bit cray trying to get ready for te wiki, but I'm back for some shout outs!

Tuatahi - mihi nunui ki a CHOOSE SARCASM!! Got so much respect and appreciation for this meke as local, sustainable and Māori pākihi that are going out of their way to tautoko Kōrero ki Ōtautahi and Mātaki Mai. Jump over to their website to buy merch: https://choosesarcasm.co.nz/products/mataki-mai-tee and keep an eye out for the videos we've had fun making lol.

Tuarua - ki ngā pākihi Ako mai, Fe & T Consultancy Ltd, Reo Māori Mai and HAPA e kore e mimiti te aroha i te tautoko koha. Ngā wāhine toa!

All of these pākihi are run by amazing wāhine Māori right here and Ōtautahi and I love that they can be involved and that we can shout their awesomeness to the rooftops!

There will be more mihi to come and more announcements too, but now I have to get back to packing - off to Pōneke later today.

Keep your eyes peeled for giveaways!

Support Mātaki Mai, Ōtautahi's Māori Film Festival by purchasing some of their official merch. These tees are 100% cotton, unisex, and size-inclusive.
