What is Diwali, and why is it celebrated?

Diwali, known as the Festival of Lights, is one of the most important celebrations in Indian culture. It represents the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and hope over despair.

For many, Diwali is a time to come together with family and friends, light diyas, share food, enjoy music and celebrate new beginnings.

It’s also about community, connection and spreading joy - values that make Diwali a celebration for everyone.

This year, we’re bringing that spirit to Selwyn!

✨ Selwyn Diwali Festival 2026 - Sunday 1 November, 2.00–9.30pm at Lincoln Domain ✨
