The running community in Lagos is growing, and there are so many people helping to build it.

For this edition of our Community Spotlight, we’re featuring Active Run Community ACTIVE (Run Community Lagos) a group that has grown from a small group of friends in Ajao Estate to a community of over 500 runners on the Lagos Mainland.

With 100+ runners on a typical Saturday and structured pace groups for different levels, Active Run Community creates space for beginners, experienced runners and everyone in between.

They run every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday on International Airport Road, Lagos Mainland.

Want to know more about the club? Read their full story on the Capital City Race website.

Somewhere between that first 10K and the medals that followed, running became more than a sport for Rofi'a Afolayanka .

It became a reminder that she can do hard things. A way to find clarity, stay disciplined and keep showing up, even while balancing teaching, tutoring, tailoring and school.

And then there was the community. The people who cheer you on, push you forward and make every run feel a little less like a solo journey.

For Anike, that community became family. The Milesmashers.

Her story started with volunteering at a school sports event. She had no training when she showed up for her first 10K at Capital City Race 2024. Look at where that first step has taken her.

This is Anike’s story. What’s yours? Why do you run?

FINALLY!!!

On September 1, registration opened for Capital City Race 2026 with a goal of bringing 3,000 runners to the streets of Lagos.

Today, that goal has been reached.

Over 3,000 runners have registered to run the city with us on November 21, and we couldn’t have asked for a better response.

Thank you to everyone who registered, shared the race, invited a friend and helped us get here.

Registration is now officially closed. From here, we get ready for race day.

We’ll be sharing more information with registered runners in the coming weeks.

See you at the start line.

We hope you’re not on the list.

Because if you haven’t registered for Capital City Race 2026 yet, now is the time.

Registration closes soon, and once it does, there’s no “I was going to register” on race day.
