We are very honoured and pleased to have been invited to The Director’s Cut at this year’s Scottish Yarn Festival. We are already preparing hard and have made this wee film to show how the yarn gets from the sheep to the stand at the show. I hope you like it!

I can’t seem to dye anything other than purples and pinks at the moment. Perhaps it’s the influence of the garden - these are all coming with me to at New darle Racecourse this weekend, as well as to the in Perth in September. There may or may not be other shades available.
In other news we are considering whether to give every customer who spends over £100 at this weekend a free courgette (while stocks last) as the courgette mountain is getting out of control.

I am still dyeing yarn in the heat and plodding my way through the rewards. Nearly there. This is one of the £150 reward boxes and it’s going out to someone who really loves purple!
This tier of rewards contains a tote bag and I really hope people like them! It’s such a good cause and I may have been a bin-liner-toting care-leaver a long time ago.
The boxes are not ‘quite’ big enough; but that’s what parcel tape is for, right?

This seems to be one of those summers where I’m racing to catch up with it: veg went in late then got mostly eaten by slugs while I was distracted; I haven’t had a sea swim in months and I’ve nearly missed the elderflowers.
I was thinking today - as I hunted about for good elderflowers - that it’s good to feel rooted in a small patch of geography. Over the years I’ve learned where to find (among other things): gorse flowers; sloes; crab apples; brambles; wild raspberries; hazelnuts; wild garlic; sweet cicely; oak galls and even walnuts.
But I’ve lived in this location for 18 years this month and it’s all taken time and exploring. There’s no map.
Spent this morning at the beach with the dog and paddled in the sea. Found two Groatie Buckies. Had lobster tacos from the Puffin Box.

These last few days have seen me washing and dyeing and labelling yarn ready for Cumbrian Wool Gathering this weekend. It’s been my first time dyeing the new Aran weight yarns we got back from the 2025 clip and I’m happy either way the way most of them came out. So welcome to our new Simply Shetland Lammerlaw Hand-dyed Aran skeins. I love these shades! I’ve also dyed up a new batch of Harehope in garden-inspired shades.
Following last year’s project, we will have a LOT of yarn with us!
In a busy few weeks I’ve also discovered my cholesterol levels are horribly and I have adult-onset asthma.

Spent a productive and thought-provoking day at the Great British Wool Revival event, bringing together producers, designers, end-users and researchers among others.
Lots of questions, new connections, and ideas for developing the wool business.
Spotted this fantastic mural while I was hunting for sustenance in Muirkirk. It shows a local poet Tibbie Pagan and was painted by John Andrew. Im not sure if Tibbie was more famous for her poetry, or the howff she ran but I thought the mural was stunning and very apt for today, as we sought to shorten the gap between flock and fabric.

Went into Edinburgh yesterday for a quick meeting at the
I’ve had a bruising couple of weeks and my rotator cuff pain is getting worse so I was feeling tired and a wee bit fragile.
Had really hoped to make it in and out of Edinburgh without spending any money but…
Took a tiny detour and popped into the fabulous for a hug from Jess and some retail therapy.
Such a lovely shop I could have curled up under the yarn and gone to sleep 🥰But the hug, and the yarn, did the trick.
The yarn is by and John Arbon is my ‘go to’ reliable yarn for projects. Unfortunately I’ve now discovered I can just go into Edinburgh and buy it 😳😂
I love these shades and have plans ….. 😍
