Mrs. Kusum Sakha
Head, Central Department of Law
Q: Do you feel proud to be a woman? If yes, then why?
A: Of course, I do, because a woman has dual personas. She is such being who can be active both inside and outside their home. Men are not the same in that matter. Women have more responsibility but still they do it because they have more patience and power. If given opportunity, women can go very high. Men lack patience. We women are full of it. And that’s why Women are strong and that’s why I am proud.
Q: Would you convert to become a man if given chance?
A: Yes but not because I want to experience being a man but to exchange my Womanhood with my husband's manhood to make him see the plights, the sorrows, the fears of being a woman. But only for a certain time though. I wouldn’t accept such offer if it was otherwise.
Q: What differences do you find in the status of woman in the past and present?
A: The present is very bright than the past. We have laws to support women voices and choices to empower them. The only problem is the ex*****on part. If it were to execute properly, then it would surely make a difference to change the deep rooted mentality for it is that mentality which disrupts woman's movement towards empowerment. Along with that, the dual responsibility that a modern woman has to bear is also a hindrance for woman's independence. Nowadays people are educated which is fortunate for our children. They can embrace the difference and move forward.
Q: Being such an inspirational figure in legal education field, what do A: you think what can be your role in women empowerment?
I am a strong believer of women empowerment and I have been involved in many NGOs previously working in the fields of women empowerment such as FWLD. While I am still a professor, my main contribution can be imparting of education for I believe education to be the only thing that can amend the deep rooted patriarchal thoughts in society. And after I retire I shall continue to empower women through social services.
