✨ Meet the Curators - Echoes of Nothing 25/26 ✨

Meet Federico Martínez, Spanish classical percussionist based in Amsterdam and part of the Echoes of Nothing curatorial team. Currently pursuing a Master’s degree at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Federico combines a strong orchestral background with a curiosity for diverse musical worlds.

Alongside his musical path, he holds a degree in Computer Science, allowing him to bridge technology and sound and bring fresh, interdisciplinary perspectives music-making.

Federico is really enthusiastic about being part of the curator team and is looking forward next concerts!

The December’s edition, “Echoes of Nothing” preconcert is coming tomorrow!

We will be welcoming the Pulsar Quartet, an international guitar based in Amsterdam.
They will be performing a colorful repertoire from 19:45 at the foyer in Muziekgebouw.

It is November and the Echoes of Nothing series is back with a new iteration of exciting and adventurous programs.

To start the season pianist, keyboardist, composer and conductor Hania Derej will perform some of her own music for piano and electronics.

Hania’s musical personality and upbeat charisma captivated us from the beggining, it will be a program full of energy, followed by Alex Paxton, Enno Poppe and Ensemble Modern in the Groote Zaal of the Muziekgebouw.

Overall an evening where the theme is clear:
Strong personality.

Our next concert is very special, and the last one of this season!

Coming June 5th at 19:45, the Conical Brass Ensemble presents a blaring performance of Victor Ewald’s Brass Quintet. Free entrance.

This festive performance complements and introduces the concert to follow on the Groote Zaal, also the one to close Muziekgebouw’s 2024/25 season: Klang Forum Wien’s “Zwarte gaten van de romantiek”

The special combination of marimba and violin will transport you to a different era - the perfect way to compliment the Grote Zaal’s programme: Transfigurations with Het Collectief.

Next concert!!

Join us on Sunday, April 13th for our next Echoes - Duo TIDE ( & .laurence). They’re exciting performance draws on the symbiosis of synthetic and organic sounds. Their music draws on influences from contemporary classical, African music, and the electronic underground scene. Utilising instruments like
the kora, cello, and modular synthesiser, they delve into sound explorations through a mix of structured improvisation and composition.

Improvisations on Dreams and Thunder by Wim Henderickx. (Entrance to our programming is free, as always)

For this special edition of EoN, we have decided to pay homage to .henderickx_official . Some of us had Wim as our professor, others saw him in the hallways of the conservatory - but everyone involved in this edition will have been touched and inspired by Wim in some way. Graciously, we’ve been granted use of a few themes from the accordion concerto that will be played the same evening, and we will improvise using this material as a musical base.

Personally, I will always remember Wim demonstrating musical ideas - by dancing. Time spent with him felt like a party. We wanted to create a musical scenario where we could channel this life force and joy, and maybe even get the audience dancing, we think Wim would have gotten a kick out of that. :)

NIEUW-AMSTERDAM explores film music of New York in the golden age. Bridging old Amsterdam and New York (formerly New Amsterdam, a Dutch settlement) Haizea Trio explores the music of Malcolm Arnold, Theo Smit, and Henri Zagwijn.

We have chosen to pair this program with a Grote Zaal concert highlighting film - VAMPYR with Metrocellj and Martin de Ruiter
