Yesterday, we celebrated our heritage with the annual exhibition, where scholars gathered to share our stories live at the Echoes Of Our Heritage gallery. This event, a cherished tradition, aims to pass down our stories to the younger generation.
This year's Kpakpaaseninini storytelling featured insightful contributions from Professor Alexander, historian Sir Alex Ofem, and traditionalist His Highness Udomo Clement Bassey. We were honored to have the Okpebili Obol Yibala O. Edet Okpebili of Ugep grace the event. The storytelling began with the Okpebili offering prayers to our gods, expressing pride in the Echoes Of Our Heritage art gallery, which will serve as a tourist attraction and educational hub.
The evening was filled with great sounds from the Obam drummer, followed by Fascinating storytelling. Attendees were excited, with some even requesting the storytellers teach them the traditional songs that accompanied the stories. The event concluded with a delightful spread of local cuisine, including Ijakpo and Esama, Akara Kebojen, Ajam, Losamababa, and more.
Kpakpaseninini was indeed an educative, fun, and inspiring experience. And this event will continue every August, where we'll come together to share Yakurr stories, bring history alive, and pass down wisdom from our elders to the next generation.

Story shared by Mama Eni Ikpi Otu: While Echoes Of Our Heritage has adopted the word Kpakpaseninini as a brand to tell stories of Yakurr cultures reinterpreted by local artists, we honor the rich tradition that inspired it. Our elders, including our parents, grandparents, and ancestors, used to share stories that took us to a world of magic and meaning. These timeless tales not only entertained but also taught us valuable lessons. As we continue to collect and share new stories through Kpakpaseninini, we're also committed to preserving the original stories that have been passed down through generations. By documenting these stories, we aim to educate future generations about our cultural heritage, remind ourselves of the timeless traditions that shaped our identities, and keep the lessons and wisdom of our ancestors alive. Through Kpakpaseninini, we're not only sharing new stories but also preserving our rich cultural heritage.

Have you ever heard of the word "Kpakpaaseninini"? This ancient word has been passed down through generations in Yakurr culture, and it holds a special significance that we're excited to share with you. "Kpakpaaseninini" is more than just a phrase... it's an invitation to gather around and experience the rich stories of our heritage. In the old days, our elderly mothers would sit on a chair, surrounded by mats where we'd sit and listen to their enthralling stories. They'd begin with "Kpakpaaseninini", and we'd respond with "Ah!", ready to embark on a journey of discovery. Echoes of Heritage is reviving this timeless tradition! We're adopting "Kpakpaaseninini" to share stories of our culture, reinterpreted by talented artists. Professor Alexander Iwara, a renowned linguist and leading authority on Yakurr language and culture, has graciously lent his support to our initiative, recognizing the significance of "Kpakpaaseninini" in preserving our cultural heritage. Gather around, just like we used to, and let's preserve our history together! Celebrate our Yakurr culture with us and discover the beauty of "Kpakpaaseninini".
