Diplomacy and Corporate Communications are essential tools in fostering international peace, collaboration, and strategic negotiations. As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, the need for skilled professionals in these fields continues to grow. Hence, the need for the Diplomacy and Corporate Communications Conference.

In line with the United Nations' recognition of the importance of international cooperation, peaceful conflict resolution, and the role of effective communication in diplomacy which International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace seeks to highlight annually on April 24, the Diplomacy and Corporate Communications Conference is a strategic knowledge-exchange platform designed to advance the understanding of diplomacy and corporate communication as tools for collaboration, innovation, peace building, conflict resolution and national development while positioning Nigeria and Africa for global relevance.

In 2025, the Diplomacy and Corporate Communications Conference (DCCC) was launched, having its inaugural edition on Friday, April 25, 2025.

As we continue to build this platform into a leading hub for diplomacy, strategic communication, youth engagement, policy dialogue, and global collaboration in Africa, we call on Ministries of Foreign Affairs, diplomatic missions, international organisations, development agencies, corporate institutions, policy stakeholders, academic institutions, and strategic partners to support and collaborate with the Diplomacy and Corporate Communications Conference. Together, we can equip a new generation of diplomats, communicators, policy influencers, and global leaders with the knowledge, networks, and opportunities needed to drive peace, sustainable development, international cooperation, and transformative impact across Africa and beyond.

GOODWILL MESSAGE DELIVERED BY IJEAWELE CHIMAMAKA OGBONNA DURING THE SPECIAL EDITION OF DCCC WEB SERIES IN COMMEMORATION OF INTERNATIONAL DAY OF MULTILATERALISM AND DIPLOMACY FOR PEACE

Distinguished panelists, respected speakers, special guests, and everyone present,

I am truly honoured to offer this goodwill message on the occasion of the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace.

On a day like this, we are reminded that the world we live in is both deeply connected and deeply fragile. From Nigeria to every corner of the globe, we are witnessing growing instability that affects not just systems and institutions, but everyday human lives.

While I may not speak as an expert in diplomacy or international relations, I do know that we do not have to be experts to see, feel, and experience what is unfolding around us daily.
Across Nigeria and the world, many people are grappling with:
- Economic instability and rising cost of living
- Insecurity and community conflicts
- Youth unemployment and growing uncertainty about the future
- Political tensions and governance challenges
- Climate-related disruptions such as flooding and environmental degradation
- Migration pressures and displacement of families
- The spread of misinformation and declining trust in institutions
- Mental health strain, anxiety, and a growing sense of global uncertainty.

These are not abstract issues. They are lived realities in homes, workplaces, schools, and communities. And this is why this moment matters.

Multilateralism and diplomacy are not distant ideas reserved for global summits; they are practical tools for survival, cooperation, and shared progress in an increasingly complex world.
But beyond policy and governance, this also touches something deeply human.

As mothers, we feel it in the questions our children ask about safety, the futures they are stepping into, and the world we are raising them in.

As writers, we feel it in the stories we are compelled to tell, because silence is no longer an option when reality is this loud. Writing, for many of us, becomes both witness and responsibility.
As a writer myself, this matters even more.

I still remember attending the first Diplomacy and Corporate Communications Conference with my sons who were 12 and 11 at the time. My reason for exposing them to such an event was simple but intentional: I wanted them to see that conversations about society, leadership, and the future are not abstract adult matters. They are part of their inheritance.

They were not too young to begin to understand the world they are growing into, and I was not too insulated to keep them away from it.

This is why what DCCC is doing is crucial. We have to bring these conversations home, down to our grassroots levels, into our schools, our families, and our everyday interactions, because when global discussions remain distant, they lose the very people they are meant to protect.

And when we bring them home, something shifts. Awareness grows. Responsibility deepens. And collective action becomes possible.

Ultimately, what we are confronting today is not just a diplomatic challenge, but a human one. A mother’s concern, a writer’s burden, a child’s future, and a society’s survival are all tied to how well we choose to listen, cooperate, and act together.

I therefore join my voice with others across the world in reaffirming our shared responsibility to pursue a peaceful and sustainable future—one conversation, one partnership, and one act of understanding at a time.

Thank you.

GOODWILL MESSAGE DELIVERED BY MR IGNATIUS CHUKWU, VETERAN JOURNALIST, DURING SPECIAL EDITION OF DCCC WEB SERIES IN COMMEMORATION OF INTERNATIONAL DAY OF MULTILATERALISM AND DIPLOMACY FOR PEACE 2026

Multilateralism and Diplomacy looks at the role of Diplomacy in advancing Multilateralism.

Multilateralism seeks to deemphasize super power syndrome. It is a concept suggested to the US by a Foreign Affairs expert, Mr Chase, who advised the US to pursue the rise of many powers instead of unipolar or bi-polar global order.

It seeks to allow regional powers of pockets of powers around the world so it will not be only the US or Russia that would spend to protect the world.

In that case, other countries can share responsibility either in security, food, tech, etc. Diplomacy is the tool that will moderate or aggregate these powers into one united world with shared responsibilities.

Communication is important in this to put forward what each country or regions brings to the table and their views.

Fake News is dangerous in this efforts.

This is an opportunity for other regional powers such as Nigeria to choose one or two areas to excel and attract global respect and responsibility. India is ahead in health tech, Brazil in food tech. Nigeria can rise on the back of Fintech and youth force.
