Happy 329th day of 2023 my dear amazing Facebook family, ๐โค๏ธ
When I checked my grade in mathematics for the 2013 West Africa Senior School Certificate Exam (WASSCE), I became very restless. I was very disappointed with myself that I nearly considered su***de.
How can the Senior Prefect of a highly known school like Oxford Creative-International Schools , not make even a "C" in mathematics both in WASSCE and in NECO?
Oh! The shame of telling my dear parents that I didn't credit mathematics was at another level. I couldn't even hold myself. I don't even know how I pulled through that season. But looking back now, I know that it can only be GOD.
My dear parents' ambition for me to become a medical doctor, was cut short in late 2012 when I changed from art to science, because of my passion to become an educator and no longer a doctor.
Though my dear parents, Rev. Pst Isaac Victoria Ezeudo later understood me and encouraged me to pursue my passion to become an educator, I still wonder what would have become of me, if I continued with sciences.
I must confess that my fear for mathematics and for failure has largely contributed to my poor performance in mathematics.
Writing mathematics exam for over four times now, is not funny, but I have come to develop love for numbers and I am beginning to understand that, there is a lot I can learn from my own failure in mathematics that can inspire my students and future children to do more than I did.
As I type, I am preparing to register for another mathematics exam but first, I am happily engaging in mathematics classes online so that I can improve on my calculation skills. I have decided that I wouldn't let my fear for mathematics and it's countless formula, stop me from loving numbers and furthering my B.ED, MASTERS and Ph.D in any country of my choice.
In fact, one of the highly successful lecturers that keep encouraging me not to give up on my dream of becoming a Language and communication Professor irrespective of my mathematics experience, is Assoc. Professor Okoh Frank U Pastor . A man of excellence with zero tolerance for exam malpractice.
Assoc. Prof. Frank U Okoh is my academic mentor. I am eternally grateful to God, for the uncommon access and acceptance by him.
Well, it's still thanksgiving season, so here is the poem I wrote in honour of my dear amazing mentor -- Assoc. Prof. Frank U Okoh:
