Banning Osimhen from the national team squad will be counterproductive. Anyone considering such a move should reflect on the broader implications. Discipline is crucial, but removing perhaps your best player during a poorly performing qualifying round is an own goal. While teamwork is vital, winning also matters, and Osimhen is a winner. Our next opponents will be pleased, and this action is likely to further antagonize Osimhen.
The aim is for him to understand his mistake and apologize. Therefore, it makes more sense from a leadership perspective to speak with Osimhen privately and address the issues behind his outburst. This approach would likely encourage him to apologize on his own.
Goal-oriented leadership, which the Nigerian Football Federation(NFF) should apply here, is the better path. It's not too late to reconsider the ban.
