ANNOUNCING THE CO-CHAIRS OF THE 2026 THINGS FALL APART FESTIVAL

The Centre for Memories – Ncheta Ndigbo is proud to announce the appointment of Chief Osita Chidoka (Ike Obosi) and Dr. Ike Chioke (Nze Eji Eje Mba) as Co-Chairs of the Organising Committee for the 2026 Things Fall Apart Festival (TFAF). This dynamic duo brings unparalleled expertise, visionary leadership, and a deep commitment to cultural preservation, setting the stage for an edition that will amplify Chinua Achebe’s enduring legacy on a truly global scale.

As we mark the festival's evolution into a premier international platform for dialogue on African identity, resilience, and innovation, Chief Chidoka and Dr. Chioke will spearhead efforts to expand its reach across Africa, the diaspora, and beyond; fostering cross-cultural exchanges, artistic collaborations, and thought-provoking conversations that resonate in today's interconnected world.

Chief Osita Chidoka, a statesman and longstanding advocate for the arts, has been a key supporter of the Centre for Memories and a vocal proponent of culture as a driver of national development and global dialogue.

Dr. Ike Chioke, a respected cultural patron and institutional leader, previously chaired the Grand Finale of the 2025 Festival. His leadership was widely credited with elevating the scale and international visibility of the event.

Their appointment marks a bold new chapter for the Festival as it expands its global footprint and deepens its cultural impact across Africa and the diaspora.

We look forward to their stewardship as we prepare for a Festival that continues to honour Achebe’s legacy while shaping new global conversations on identity, culture, and self-definition.

ANNOUNCING THE 2026 EDITION OF THE ANNUAL THINGS FALL APART FESTIVAL

For five years, the Centre for Memories – Ncheta Ndigbo has returned, year after year, to the world of Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe — not merely to celebrate a book, but to interrogate its meanings and its mirror to our lives.

Each year has opened new layers of Achebe’s text. Each year has affirmed that Things Fall Apart continues to speak powerfully to our present world.

Now, in 2026, we are excited to announce the 2026 edition of the annual Things Fall Apart Festival in celebration of the 68th publication anniversary of the book, under the theme:

NAMED, UNNAMED, RENAMED: Power, Identity and the Right to Self-Definition

Drawing from Achebe’s profound insights on naming, erasure, resistance, and self-authorship, this year’s theme confronts some of the most urgent questions of our time:

Who has the power to define whom?
Who speaks for a people?
Who tells the story?
Who decides what we are called?

The festival is scheduled to run from Sunday, July 26 to Saturday, August 1, 2026, featuring lectures, panel discussions, book conversations, music and theatre performances, art exhibitions, school mentorship sessions, and village dialogues.

We are inviting schools, literary societies, cultural organisations, community groups, and enthusiasts from across Nigeria and beyond to join us for this immersive celebration of Achebe’s legacy and a reflection on identity, memory, and self-definition.
