THE STAFF ROOM IS COMPLETELY SILENT

The staff room was quiet again. Not because the teachers had nothing to say, but because they were tired of saying it.

Mrs. Ada slumped into the plastic chair she’d been using for five years. It wobbled, just like her faith in the system. Her salary hadn’t been paid in two months, yet she still showed up every morning before 7 a.m., chalk in hand, heart full of hope.

Mr. Tunde, the Physics teacher, had just returned from teaching SS3. He hadn’t eaten all day. The school proprietor had promised lunch stipends last term. It never came. Instead, he got a memo reminding him to “dress professionally” and “smile more for the school’s image.”

They all remembered when the school owner drove in with a brand-new SUV, the same week they were told there wasn’t enough money for salary increments. The teachers clapped politely at the unveiling, then returned to their classes with broken spirits.

Miss Bisi, young and full of dreams, had once tried to speak up. She wrote a letter asking for basic teaching materials—markers, a whiteboard that didn’t peel, maybe even a fan for the sweltering classroom. The response? A warning letter for “insubordination.”

They weren’t lazy. They weren’t unqualified. They were simply undervalued.

Every day, they shaped minds, wiped tears, corrected essays, and stayed late to coach students for WAEC. Yet, when it came to appreciation, they were invisible.

No health insurance. No pension. No respect.

But they stayed. For the children. For the hope that maybe, someday, someone would see them—not just as tools, but as the backbone of education.

So the staff room remained silent. Not because they had nothing to say. But because they had said it all—and no one was listening.

19/08/2025

Her skirt was so short, she couldn’t bend down without shame.
But she wore it again the next day.

I remember the look on the teacher’s face.
Disappointed. Angry.
But mostly… helpless.

She wanted to say something.
She should’ve sent the girl home.
But she paused… because “people will say I’m too harsh.”

So she kept quiet.
And another girl watched.
Then copied.

By the next week, 3 more skirts got shorter.
The boys started sagging their trousers like they just came from prison.
And suddenly —
The classroom started looking like a nightclub pre-party.

One day, a young male teacher stormed out of the staff room and quit.
“I came to teach, not fight daily battles with temptation.”
He left.
No warning. Just walked away.

Another teacher tried to confront a student.
The girl laughed and said,
“My mum bought me this skirt.”

That’s when it hit us.

The collapse didn’t start in the school.
IT STARTED AT HOME.
Where silence became agreement.
Where parenting became passivity.

And now?
We’re watching a generation slip through our fingers… while we scroll and stay quiet.

📌 DEAR PARENTS:-
When you allow your child walk out half-dressed “to express themselves”

You’re not just being modern.
You’re quietly approving destruction.

📌 DEAR SCHOOL HEADS:-
When you see the madness and say nothing —
You are failing the very children you swore to shape.

SEND THEM HOME.
Set standards.
Hold the line.

This is not just about fashion.
It’s about future.
It’s about values.
It’s about saving a generation before it’s too late.

If we don’t fix it now.

The stories we’ll tell in 10 years will be far, far worse.
