NACOMYO Inaugurates Newly Completed Lagos Quran House with Commissioning Prayers

The National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO), Lagos State Chapter, has officially commenced activities at its newly completed Lagos Quran House following a special commissioning prayer held on Tuesday, 7th Ramadan 1447 AH (24 February 2026).

The spiritually significant ceremony took place at the facility located at 36, Jebba Street, Ebute Metta, Lagos, marking the fulfillment of a long-cherished vision to establish a dedicated center for Qur’anic education, Islamic development, and youth empowerment.

The commissioning session featured solemn supplications led by the NACOMYO Lagos Qur’an Coordinator, Imam Maruf Okusanya, alongside the State Mursheed, Ustaz Adewale Muhammad. The clerics offered prayers for Allah’s blessings upon the project, its benefactors, and the Muslim Ummah, while seeking divine guidance for the effective and sustainable use of the facility.

Dignitaries present at the event included Alhaja Muinat Alake Shopeyin, Alhaji Abdulfatai Olukoga, Alhaji Abdurafiu Ebiti, and members of the NACOMYO Elders Council led by Alhaji Murtadha Balogun, among other stakeholders. Their attendance highlighted the significance of the Quran House as both a spiritual and administrative milestone for the council.

In her remarks, Alhaja Shopeyin encouraged stakeholders to continue supporting NACOMYO’s mission financially and spiritually, noting that although the building has been completed, it is yet to be fully owned by the council.

The State Coordinator, Alhaji Isiaka Salami, expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah, the elders, and all contributors who made the project possible. He reaffirmed the council’s renewed commitment to advancing Islamic knowledge and strengthening moral values among Muslim youths across Lagos State.

Also speaking, Alhaji Murtadha Balogun described the completion of the Quran House as a symbol of faith, perseverance, and collective sacrifice.

Op-Ed: APC Crisis Must End — Tinubu Knows Sardauna’s Sacrifice; Why Is Yobe Silent?

By Haladu Madi

Elder statesman and prominent political leader in Yobe South, Hon. Haladu Madi (Kauran Potiskum), has justified his support for Haruna Sardauna’s ministerial aspiration, cautioning that continued sidelining of young leaders could jeopardize Yobe State’s political future.

In an interview, Madi said his over five decades of political engagement in Yobe gives him the moral authority to speak candidly, noting that most current actors joined politics long after him. He explained that his backing of Sardauna is rooted in experience, principle, and a commitment to safeguarding the state’s future.

Reflecting on the GNPP era, Madi recalled working with figures such as Hassan Albadewi, Barde Gadaka, Goni Potiskum, Goni Sanda Kusur, Bulama Damagum, and Barr. Bakura Ba’aba, among others. He said the responsibility of surviving elders is to guide today’s leaders and speak truthfully, adding that divine providence has kept them alive for this purpose.

Madi accused members of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s inner circle of deepening youth discontent and placing the APC in Yobe at risk. According to him, allegations of marginalisation and ethnic dominance are gaining traction in the media and reshaping the state’s political image nationally. He urged Governor Buni—whom he described as one of Nigeria’s most youth-friendly governors—to act decisively to halt the crisis.

While stressing that he has no personal disagreement with the governor, Madi said certain close allies are misleading him into denying young people access to national opportunities. He warned that similar missteps occurred during the Barr. Bashir Bale episode and could ultimately tarnish the governor’s legacy if unchecked.

He advised Governor Buni to reassess those undermining Sardauna and to discipline errant supporters where necessary. Madi described Sardauna as a focused mobiliser with clear political direction, arguing that the governor understands his value better than anyone. Given the national mobilisation role recently entrusted to Buni by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Madi said it would be strategic to bring Sardauna closer and deploy his capacity ahead of 2027.

Addressing criticisms of his open support for Sardauna, Madi clarified that Sardauna is not his political superior. He noted that Sardauna’s father, Adamu Dashu, was his political junior during the GNPP era. He said he is doing for Sardauna today what he once did for another young man who later became governor and a national figure.

Madi recounted his role in Governor Buni’s political rise, from facilitating his entry into government during the Mamman Ali administration to his progression through key roles culminating in the governorship. He also recalled how Sardauna sought his support in 2023 to mobilise for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential bid, which he facilitated by rallying his political network.

He warned that suppressing youth aspirations threatens Yobe’s future, arguing that Sardauna requires only modest backing from leaders. Madi maintained that no youth in Yobe or the North East sacrificed more for the Tinubu–Shettima ticket than Sardauna, including leading the successful push for the vice-presidential slot to go to the North East.

According to Madi, both President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are fully aware of Sardauna’s contributions. He described Sardauna as a nationally connected youth leader, a co-founder of the Tinubu Youth Ambassadors in 2016, and a key northern mobiliser who advocated power rotation from North to South during the Buhari era.

Madi said multiple Arewa youth groups endorsed Sardauna for Minister of State for Youth Development to ensure parity with southern youth representation. He explained that, following President Tinubu’s approval of this framework, three nominees—one from each northern zone—were submitted, with Sardauna representing the North East. He expressed concern that no Yobe leader has openly supported Sardauna and alleged active sabotage by state actors.

He further detailed Sardauna’s political journey, including his service under Governors Gaidam and Buni, his media and youth mobilisation roles, and his contributions to APC victories in 2019 and 2023. Madi said elders frequently relied on Sardauna as a channel to the governor and questioned why that support has since evaporated.

Warning of rising tension in Yobe South, Madi compared the situation to the fate of Barr. Bashir Bukar Bale, whose appointment and eventual removal he said cost the state a strategic position. He cautioned leaders against stifling youth ambitions, noting that widespread youth backlash can alter political dynamics.

Madi recalled former Governor Ibrahim Gaidam’s warning against rejecting young leaders and framed the unfolding events as divinely consequential. He urged party leaders to address grievances internally ahead of 2027.

He concluded that Sardauna and many young politicians are his mentees and that he has restrained their anger to prevent escalation. With Governor Buni’s appointment as Chairman of the APC Reconciliation, Mobilisation, and Strategy Committee, Madi said resolving Yobe’s crisis would be a critical test, visible to national stakeholders.

He also criticised the handling of a reconciliation committee led by Sen. Musa Mustapha, alleging intimidation of party youths and the arrest of a leading voice, Abdullahi Amaroso, before diplomatic intervention secured his release. Madi advised dissolving the committee and forming a new, impartial one to restore unity.

Ultimately, Madi urged Governor Buni to “begin at home” by resolving Yobe South’s grievances, stabilising the party, and paving the way for APC’s success in the 2027 elections.

She’s 91 years old, standing in a hospital gown, hands in chains. Arrested for felony theft. The judge could hardly believe it.

Helen and her husband George, 88, have been married 65 years. He has severe heart failure and needs medicine every day just to stay alive. They live on a fixed income, barely scraping by. Last month, their supplemental insurance lapsed after they couldn’t afford the payment.

When Helen went to pick up his prescription, the bill wasn’t their usual $50. It was $940. She left empty-handed.

For three days, she watched the man she loved struggle to breathe.

Desperate, she went back to the pharmacy. While the pharmacist turned away, she slipped the medication into her purse. She didn’t even make it to the door before she was stopped. The police charged her with felony shoplifting.

During booking, her blood pressure skyrocketed, and she was rushed to the hospital. The next morning, still in her thin gown, she was brought into court.

“I didn’t know what else to do,” she whispered. “He’s all I have.”

The judge looked at her — small, trembling, 91 years old — and shook his head.

“Take those chains off her,” he ordered. “This is not a criminal. This is a failure of our system.”

He dismissed the charges immediately and ordered emergency assistance for both her and George.

President Tinubu Hails Nigerian Military for Sacrifice and Service

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces for their sacrifices in defending Nigeria’s sovereignty, stating that the nation owes them its full support and encouragement.

Speaking at the Nigerian Guild of Editors conference in Abuja on Wednesday, the president highlighted the high risks faced by military personnel deployed in the fight against terrorism, banditry, and other security challenges.

> “They put their lives on the line to defend the sovereignty of this country. It is our responsibility,” Tinubu asserted.

His remarks come amid renewed calls for improved welfare and support for security personnel. The President meanwhile noted that while significant progress has been made—with the Presidency citing an 81 per cent decrease in terror-related deaths since 2015 and the surrender of over 124,000 fighters—more work remains.

Tinubu urged Nigerians to lend their voices, resources, and collective will to empower the armed forces:

> “Are we doing something about it? Are we inspiring the armed forces? Are we encouraging them to fight?” he asked.

INEC Issues Certificates of Return to Governor Soludo and Deputy in Anambra

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally issued certificates of return to Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his deputy, Onyekachukwu Ibezim, following their victory in the recent governorship election in Anambra State.

The presentation took place at INEC’s state‐headquarters in Awka, where national commissioner Kenneth Ikeagu, who supervised the Anambra election, officially handed over the documents. He stated that the issuance conformed with Section 72(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, which mandates INEC to deliver certificates within 14 days to successful candidates.

In his remarks, Governor Soludo thanked INEC and the security agencies for what he described as a peaceful, free, and fair election. He stated:

“We are delighted that his first outing [for the new INEC Chairman] was in Anambra … the security agencies stood firm to ensure the will of the people prevailed.”

According to the official result, Soludo garnered 422,664 votes, while his closest rival from the All Progressives Congress (APC) amassed 99,445 votes.

The issuance of the certificates marks the formal recognition of Soludo’s mandate and sets the stage for his second term in office.

Alleged Genocide of Nigerian Christians: US Congressman Criticises FG Over Inaction

United States Congressman Bill Huizenga has publicly criticised the Federal Government of Nigeria for failing to sufficiently address the escalating attacks on Christian communities in the country. He described the continuing violence as edging toward a “slow-motion genocide” and urged the U.S. to impose targeted economic sanctions instead of deploying military intervention.

Speaking in Washington D.C., Huizenga highlighted testimony from survivors of attacks in Nigeria’s Middle Belt and North-West, who claimed they felt “very much targeted” because of their faith. He warned that Nigeria risked repeating tragedies such as those seen in Rwanda and South Sudan if decisive action was not taken.

While expressing shock at the recent remarks of former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding a possible U.S. military intervention in Nigeria, Huizenga clarified that he does not advocate for foreign military action. Instead, he favours sanctions aimed at cutting off financial and logistical support to perpetrator groups.

He added:

> “They need to demonstrate what they are doing to protect not just Christians but all citizens. Their response has been, ‘There’s really not a problem.’ Well, I think there is.”

Chidoka Urges Minister Wike to Apologise for ‘Abusive Language’ Towards Law Enforcement Officer

Former Aviation Minister and governance expert, Osita Chidoka, has called on Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, to tender a formal apology to a law enforcement officer he allegedly verbally abused.

In a statement posted on his page, Chidoka emphasised that any officer—whether uniformed or in plain clothes—represents the Nigerian state, and that abusing such an individual amounts to diminishing the sovereignty and authority of the Republic itself.

Chidoka described Wike’s decision to intervene personally at a disputed site—rather than following institutional processes—as a fundamental misstep. “In a democracy, ministers act through process, not presence,” he said.

He explained that rather than confronting the officer directly, Wike should have communicated with relevant authorities—such as the Ministry of Defence—and followed established channels for enforcement. According to Chidoka, failing to do so disrupts the chain of command and undermines professionalism among security personnel.

The governance expert warned that ministers engaging in personal confrontation with officers erode institutional discipline and confuse authority structures. He also took aim at the DSS protective detail involved, saying their role is to safeguard officials—not ignite confrontations.

Chidoka concluded that Wike should publicly apologise to the officer, describing the incident as an avoidable episode that undermines the prestige of the ministerial office and the dignity of the security forces.
