Unity Country, let the music play! I'm delighted to announce that we held our kickoff committee meeting for SCMF26 tonight!
We're a little late on parade this year due to some issues that needed resolution, but now we're running full speed.
Lots more details to follow in the coming weeks but the dates are set, 25th to 27th September!
Save the date cowboys & cowgirls, it's gonna be epic! Yeeeehaawwww πŸ€ πŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊπŸŽΈπŸ₯ƒπŸ‡πŸ»πŸ˜ŽπŸ’ͺ

Good evening ladies & gents, I hope everyone safe home now. As the dust settles on our amazing weekend, we'd like to offer our sincere thanks & appreciation to all guests, performers, vendors, committee & support teams that made this such a special event. & thank for your support for The Bikalan, we really enjoyed hosting everybody.
Attached is a musical slideshow of the pictures i took over the 3 days (plus the Thursday meet n greet). It's a bit disjointed as some bands have lots of pictures, others very few, just a case of where I was at the time. I must of walked from The Bikalan to the stage & back 200 times!
Anyway, I hope it gives some good memories. Thanks from us, until the next time when we do it all again 😎🎸πŸ’ͺπŸ€ πŸ•ΊπŸ’ƒπŸ₯ƒ

So that's a wrap for Siniawan Country Music Festival 2025. We're home now, chilling in the room, doing calculations & reflecting on an amazing weekend.
Our best yet? Maybe. Let the audience be the judge. Form our side it was a magnificent success. Great bands, busy everywhere, happiness happening!
The weather gods let us down a bit tonight, torrential rain early on.. We'll take the win after two great nights of weather.
Sunday on this fest is low expectations, but it's proved to be outstanding in the past & tonight was no exception.
Finally caught up with Gasmoney, our debutantes from KL. Nice lads & a great set, anyone who does Johnny Cash is good in my book.
Set finished I took them up to meet YB Miro, Dylan, & all the gang. Very happy for these boys, they messaged me out of the blue, requesting to play. I discussed with the team & we gave them a shot. They're happy & so are we. Well done guys!
Next our good buddy Dr Kris & the gang, a fine set. Close out with Midnight Stranger who have seemlessly morphed from a Malay heavy rock outfit into a Country Dayak band, & they've done it well! Everyone up & dancing, including me.
So now the long bit, the thank you's.
To all the awesome guests who visited these 3 days, I hope you had as good a time as we did. So many characters, beautiful dancers, & happiness everywhere.
To all our performers who put it all out there on the stage & on the street. They don't do this for the money, they do it for the love. & we feel it. Every act from Raggy opening to Midnight Strangers closing, lit the place up.
The fellowship between the artists is so good, we're a small community & we're tight, it's a Country family.
Our team at The Bikalan, bars both 1 & 2. There are no words to express our thanks, you are the most awesome people. Worked their collective asses off the whole 3 days & did it with a smile. We couldn't ask for more.
To all the team who put all this together, our committee. YB Miro is our inspiration & Prince of Siniawan Dylan is the man who pulls the strings. Lawai, Lelek, Tonge, Roy, Pang, Kapitan Boon Kah, & all the team. It's a piece of magic that we made this weekend.
Last but not least, my Towkay Nio, so noisy normally but she quietly masterminded The Bikalan strategy in a cool & calm manner that leaves me in awe. A massive staff rosta, a never ending stock rotation, & financial juggling that would make me dizzy. I gave support but barely did anything, all down to Grace lah.
So that's the end of my ramblings, & to paraphrase the Specials: "the curtain has fallen, now we're on our own, we will return, til next year you will wait"
God bless & safe travels to all, we did it πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ
See you there yeeeeehaaaaaw & ooooooh haaaaa πŸ˜ŽπŸ‚πŸŽΈπŸ»πŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊπŸ₯ƒπŸ‡πŸ€

No post last night? Fear not, it was a calculated decision. I was pretty sure just how exhausted I would be by the end of the day so I decided early on to collect the pictures & not stress about posting. I was right, dead on my feet by the end of the day.
But let's go back a bit, unpack the events of an epic day.
As tired as we were from Friday, it was still up & about reasonably early. It's not every day the Premier comes to town. The Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg (Abang Jo to his friends) visited Siniawan to officiate the opening of our new waterfront project. 5 years in the making & officially opened yesterday. We are so proud for our brother YB Miro who instigated all this; to see it comes to fruition, & opened by the Premier, is a fantastic achievement. Miro opened the show followed by Abang Jo who spoke eloquently about the history & the spirit of Siniawan. A truly unique place of which I am proud to be a part.
Home, take rest & recharge, away we go again. It was brutally hot, pushing 40Β° as we restocked our outside bar, sweltering! The bands were busy sound checking & our good friends On Strings were doing their thing. The first song was something different, I was surprised when Boy started with the Sarawakian Nation Anthem! Grace always tells me how proud she is to hear it, every day at school starts with it. I know the song well & when I heard it I immediately jumped up, hand across my chest & felt the moment. As an adopted son of the soil, it's my song now too.
Meanwhile, the inevitable byproduct of the heat is the rain, & at 4 30pm, the heavens opened! All we can do is hope it's quick. By this time The Bikalan was full with friends old & new, tables outside front & back, all soaked. 3 times the rain almost stopped & I was busy mopping furniture, only for it to start again. Thankfully by around 6 the skies cleared & we're back on!
We have the street performers in front of our place tonight, opening with the legend Raggy, followed by the even more legendary Matthew Ngau. It's a great concept, instead of focusing everything on the main stage, start early where the crowds are with some street busking! Pete Engkassan was next up, followed by Mark Ashley. Great response from The Bikalan crowd.
On the main stage it was all killer, no filler. Some of our favourite local bands tonight. Mountain Wind from Miri opened proceedings, they play fast & hard, Country with some real edge to it. Fantastic set. Next up, the original Siniawan buskers, On Strings. They've changed a bit since those days, a very polished act that got all the crowd dancing. After them our other local favourites & Bikalan regulars, Hi Breed, outstanding as always. I convinced YB Miro to join me on stage & we gave a rousing rendition of 'have you ever seen the rain', I was happy, my moment done! KL favourites Os Pombos closed the show & a fantastic Saturday night.
This was really a special evening, huge crowds dancing the night away, chasing away the clouds with energy & excitement.
But all this comes at a price, by the end Grace, me, & all our wonderful team were completely exhausted. Along with Chap Goh Mei, this was easily the busiest night of the year at the Bik.
As tiring as it is, it's the most wonderful feeling to see this little bar we built packed to the rafters with happy people, our team running here & there, great music playing, everything going well. Warms your heart.
Huge thanks to our big team again tonight, a massive effort. One more round to go......
See you there yeeeeehaaaaaw & ooooooh haaaaa πŸ˜ŽπŸ‚πŸŽΈπŸ»πŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊπŸ₯ƒπŸ‡πŸ€

And so it begins! Cowboy weekend is huge for us in Siniawan, our big long weekend.
Grace & I reached the bar around 4.30pm, already cooking, but on low heat. Some nice people in the bar.
The night moved on & the heat turned up. More arrived & at the same time the two of us are up & down the road between our 2 bars.
The show opened with Raggy & the Penang Mustangs. Raggy is our great friend this time with full band. Next up Evergreen Unlimited band from Sabah. Following them was KCLC from Pontianak, they were a revelation. Played last year but somehow I didn't get to see them. A big band with 5 ladies front of stage, absolutely rocking, they lit the place up. So much fun. The night closed with a fine set from Country Road, our good friends from Miri.
All night long Grace & I were back & forth between bars, my step counter came it an just a shade under 10km walked.
Special mention for Sherley & fiancee Dylan from KL. They visited us a while back & liked our Tuak so much that they wanted 50 bottles for their wedding! They came in to collect tonight. Congratulations to them.
Finally around midnight, this started to wind down. Close up both bars & make our way home.
Huge thank you to our wonderful big team who worked so hard tonight. Lots of returning faces; Gina & Michelle helping on the outside bar, Poyen back from her studies, & a debut from Tata, little sister of Tutut, helping on glass washing.
So that's a wrap for day one, a fabulous evening. Too tired to post last night so finished this morning.
Now we go again! Official opening of the waterfront at 10.30, with the Premier of Sarawak. Then more festivities this evening for round 2.
See you there yeeeeehaaaaaw & ooooooh haaaaa πŸ˜ŽπŸ‚πŸŽΈπŸ»πŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊπŸ₯ƒπŸ‡πŸ€

Preperations, action stations!
Entertainment for all the nations,
Join us soon for your libations,
The music starts tonight!
I've always loved the setup for this kind of thing. From business exhibitions & trade shows, through rock n roll, even preparing the Bik for wedding functions; it's such a buzz! Everybody busy about their work, a sense of perpetual motion. The twang of guitars as the sound checks start, the clinking of bottles as the bars get loaded, shouting, gaffa tape, cable ties..... stuff going on everywhere!
The bands are drifting in one by one, a fine gathering at the Bik last night & more arriving all the time. Happy reunions & catching up with friends old & new.
The Bikalan Saloon was our task today, & we're pretty much there, just waiting for ice. This is our extension of our bar, it makes it's appearance once a year for Cowboy Festival. To serve the partying Cowgirls & Cowboys with a plentiful supply of cold beer. We even have 1602 Pale Ale on draught to quench that thirst.
So now I take some rest, prepare mentally & physically for the onslaught to come!
I wish the best of luck to all performers, vendors, & the team who make the whole thing run. Let's make Siniawan Country Music Festival 2025 the best yet!
See you there yeeeeehaaaaaw & ooooooh haaaaa πŸ˜ŽπŸ‚πŸŽΈπŸ»πŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊπŸ₯ƒπŸ‡πŸ€

The gathering of the clans! I actually prefer 'The boys (& girls) are back in town', I was a big Thin Lizzy fan.
Thursday pre Cowboy is always special. Everyone meets after a year, drink beers & tell stories. Luckily The Bikalan is always the traditional venue for this reunion.
The Bikalan looks like a drinkers warehouse, all the stock for our outside bar tomorrow & then the crowds begin to swell. Starts with one gang, then another, so on & so forth. Currently we have bands/performers from Pontianak (Indonesia), Sabah, Miri, Penang, & Saratok. The Kuchingites are all at home preserving their energy. It's always a glorious reunion. Satu Malaysia 🀩
So this is us now for the next few days,, surviving on a diet of coffee, Kolo Mi, & adrenaline. There will be beer & whisky, I'm not gonna lie.
Welcome to all our friends from near & far.
To quote The Ramones, Hey Ho Lets Go!
