Tekat is a traditional Malay embroidery known for its intricate raised patterns created with gold or silver thread, often on a velvet foundation.

The technique involves couching gold or silver thread from side to side over a raised foundation to form elaborate motifs, often floral in nature.

It is meticulous work, requiring months of expert needlepoint work, with each stitch requiring precision and patience.

Here we get a short snippet of ‘Tekat 101’ by tekat advisor & artisan; Pn Nor Faizatol Fazleha (Kak Fazz) show us around the tools used and what they’re called.
