Post-REM Skopje’s story
Dear Rotaract, Rotary and friends of Rotary,
The Rotaract community of N. Macedonia welcomes you to Skopje, our nation’s capital, for Post-REM Autumn 2020. Skopje is often referred to as its motto, i.e. as “The City of International Solidarity”. The city gained its motto because it received a huge relief from more than 80 nations worldwide after a devastating earthquake in 1963. As a result, many streets, buildings and even entire neighborhoods bear the names of the contributing countries, persons or companies. Given it’s also the birthplace of Mother Theresa, it’s a suitable city to hold a Rotarian event in. Luckily, the Old Bazaar which is the second oldest marketplace in the Balkans and one of the largest as well is still intact and buzzing with lively bars, restaurants, various artistry workshops, antique shops, museums, galleries and much more. Only 15 minutes from the city center you find Mountain Vodno and next to it the Matka Canyon where the yet to be fully discovered and the probably world’s deepest underwater cave, Vrelo is found.
If you’re looking for extending the REMarakble experience from Thessaloniki and Sofia, Post-REM Skopje is waiting for you.
