Nouvelle Nomad

Nouvelle Nomad Welcome to Nouvelle Nomad
Vintage Moroccan rugs and artisan made wares. Sustainably handmade treasures for your home and for your travels.

Marrakech | Melbourne | London
Est. 2016 Based between Melbourne, Australia and Marrakech, Morocco, Nouvelle Nomad was created by founder Bridget John to share the joys of travel, while collecting beautiful vintage and handmade treasures along the way. Since 2016 Bridget has been partnering with local family businesses, specialist carpet traders and artisan makers here in Morocco to source this un

ique collection from the traditional handcraft regions, the mountains, the deserts, the carpet auctions, and the souks. Specialising in authentic vintage, the unique and hard to find, the Nouvelle Nomad collection celebrates the beautiful textiles that already exist in this world rather than producing more. Selecting each piece for it's quality, authenticity, and design with the modern Australian home and Melbourne's style in mind. The range also includes traditional pottery and artisan made ceramics for your home, and small batch leather accessories for your travels. All slowly, mindfully and sustainably handmade here in Morocco. A selection of Nouvelle Nomad rugs are available to view in store at the Mark Tuckey Melbourne showroom.

4 Anderson Road Thornbury

Open 10 - 5pm Thursday to Saturday or by appointment

With Melbourne retail pop ups and events held each year when Bridget is back in Australia. Summer ‘22 location to be announced very soon! Make sure you’re signed up to the mailing list for details.

Vintage Marrakech - with so much new building and renovation always happening in the Medina I often look back through old photos to see how the streets and buildings have changed over the years

1. An old photo from my phone in 2016

2. The same corner this week - while the shop itself hasn’t changed that much since then it’s now surrounded by new cafes, restaurants, shops and riads, new pavements and awnings with the renovated entrance to Ben Youssef just down the street

Marrakech is changing fast! I love the new shinier version that’s emerging, but miss this old version too - from the pre-Instagram reels days! When everything was still a beautiful discovery not a “hidden gem” on an Instagram reel’s check list

A few new followers on here - so thought I’d say hello and welcome, I’m Bridget 👋

I’m an Aussie who fell in love with Morocco 8 years ago now and since then have built a life and a business based between Melbourne and Marrakech that keeps me constantly exploring, growing and inspired.

Over the years I’ve loved sharing my travels, the journey of building the business, and the special connections to the people and places that Nouvelle Nomad has been built around.

In January this year I packed up my apartment in Melbourne and have been based back in Marrakech again. It’s been a grounding and reaffirming experience coming back this time. Not the same as other years. This year has felt different.

I’ve watched this city shifting and changing with the set backs from Covid, then recent Earthquake, and the current unsettled state of the world - but it’s amazing to see much of Marrakech rebounding and thriving.

Tourism is booming - So much so that I don’t think I’ve ever seen the city with such a constant stream of visitors. Some would say for the better, others would say for the worse. Like with all Instagram famous destinations, the numbers of international visitors quickly changing the flow of local life.

There’s new openings of boutiques, restaurants, riads, international events and festivals happening all the time making it such a vibrant city to live in.

But I love sharing some of the other sides to Marrakech that you might not get to see in the usual guides - the little galleries, the artisans, the local designers and small businesses that make this city so soulful, entrepreneurial and creative.

I’m always slowly adding new articles to the travel guides section of my blog with my favourite spots and recommendations for if you’re visiting this part of the world. I hope you’ll find them helpful!

And if you’re ever in the same part of the world as me - say hello 👋 always love catching up with an Instagram friend for an adventure or a mint tea :)

X Bridget
