We’ve been waiting to share this news: it’s official, our Congress in Vilnius has been granted UNESCO patronage.

Starting the year with this level of support highlights the importance of what we are building - a global space for connection, research, and theatre education. This recognition brings a new energy to our preparations, and we are honored to have UNESCO’s backing as we move toward the Congress.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped reach this milestone. We look forward to seeing the world on our stage!

Did you know AITU-IUTA has been uniting university theatre globally since 1994?

Established in Liège, Belgium, the International University Theatre Association (AITU-IUTA) was founded to support theatre creation, education, and research at the university level. It has since grown into a global community spanning over 50 countries.

AITU-IUTA's World Congresses, held every two years, have fostered critical inquiry across the globe, with past events held in countries such as Canada, Senegal, Greece, UK, Mexico, Colombia and others. Following a necessary pause due to the global pandemic, we are excited to reconvene in 2026, hosted by Vilnius University.

The Turin International Monodrama Festival (TIMF), a biennial event organized by Fondazione Piemonte dal Vivo under the artistic direction of Barbara Bertin, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Piedmont Region, returns for its second edition in spring 2027.

This edition will spotlight monodramas from the “Silk Roads” countries and feature a Country of Honour, presented in collaboration with members of the ITI Monodrama Forum.
