Burundi’s Natacha Returns to a Hero’s Welcome After Historic Win at Thamani Africa Awards

Bujumbura erupted in celebration as Burundi’s music queen Natacha Burundi touched down at Melchior Ndadaye International Airport, returning home with continental acclaim and the cheers of thousands lining the streets.

The star, whose hit single _“Kule”_ was voted 2nd Best Song in Africa at the Thamani Africa Awards — the continent’s premier platform honoring and celebrating women — received what locals are calling the most electrifying homecoming Burundi has seen in years.

From the tarmac to the city center, crowds waved flags, sang her lyrics, and chanted her name in a procession that turned the capital into a moving festival of pride. For an artist who has long carried Burundi’s sound beyond its borders, the reception was both a coronation and a thank you.

_“Kule”_ struck a chord across Africa for its authenticity and cultural resonance, cementing Natacha’s place among the continent’s most influential voices. The Thamani Africa Awards recognition marks a watershed moment not just for her career, but for Burundi’s music industry on the continental stage.

Congratulations, Natacha. Your discipline, artistry, and relentless pursuit of excellence have paid off. You didn’t just raise Burundi’s flag in Nairobi — you brought the continent’s applause back home with you.

Burundi is watching. Africa is listening. And the streets of Bujumbura said it best: this is only the beginning. Natacha Burundi

Kiambu’s Julie Waweru Dedicates National Award to Governor Wamatangi as County’s Performance Streak Continues

Kiambu County’s star performer, Julie Waweru, has handed over her national recognition to the man steering the county’s transformation — H.E. Hon. Dr. Kimani Wamatangi, Governor of Kiambu.

Waweru, who was voted 3rd overall among Chief Officers in Kenya at the recent Thamani Africa Awards, formally presented her award and certificate to Governor Wamatangi in his office. The Governor, visibly pleased, lauded her discipline, innovation, and results-driven approach as a reflection of the county’s broader turnaround.

Waweru currently holds a dual mandate in Kiambu: she serves as Acting Chief Officer for Roads, Transport, Public Works and Utilities*, while continuing to lead the county’s *Service Delivery Unit [SDU]. It’s a workload few would attempt, let alone excel at. Her national ranking now gives hard data to what Kiambu residents have been experiencing on the ground — faster service delivery, better roads, and tighter oversight of public works.

“Congratulations, Madam Chief Officer,” Wamatangi said during the handover. “This is what servant leadership looks like.”

The moment underscored a pattern that’s fast becoming Kiambu’s brand: high performance at every level. Governor Wamatangi himself has bagged multiple awards locally and internationally for transforming Kiambu’s governance, infrastructure, and citizen engagement.

With officers like Waweru executing at the frontline, Kiambu is making a strong case for itself as Kenya’s county of delivery

Yvonne Chaka Chaka Honoured in Nairobi with Lifetime Achievement Award for Four Decades of Impact

Africa’s “Princess of Africa,” Yvonne Chaka Chaka, was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Thamani Africa Awards in Nairobi over the weekend, recognized for 40+ years of influence through music and humanitarian work.

Due to unavoidable circumstances, Mama Yvonne Chaka Chaka was unable to attend in person. She sent a video message to thank the Thamani Africa Awards Secretariat and celebrate the honour.

The award was received on her behalf by *Ms. Mbula, COO of Tena Kata*.

The Board of Directors highlighted her enduring legacy — from chart-topping anthems that defined a generation to her sustained advocacy for health, education, and women’s empowerment across Africa.

“We celebrate you today, and always,” the board said in its tribute.

The award cements Chaka Chaka’s status as both a cultural icon and a force for social change — a voice that has carried Africa’s story to the world since the 1980s.
