An idea. A plan. A spark of wanderlust and off they went. Three men, three bikes, and a dream of trails and tarmac across the border. This is the story of , Kibet, and , who traded Nairobi’s bustle for the rugged romance of Rwanda’s legendary Congo Nile Trail.
Day 1–2: Lake Kivu, the Ever-Present Companion
Their journey began in Gisenyi, a lakeside town where the blue of Lake Kivu stretches endlessly. Each morning, fishermen cast their nets against the golden sunrise, while children cheered the passing cyclists with wide grins and waves.
The trail stitched its way along the shoreline dusty paths, rocky climbs, and descents that opened to scenes of the lake shimmering in the afternoon light. Evenings ended with still waters reflecting the sky.
Day 3: Into the Hills
As the trail wound deeper inland, the landscape shifted. Markets bustled with chatter and color baskets balanced on heads, avocados stacked high, bananas slung on bicycles. Soon, rolling farmland unfolded into endless green: coffee and tea plantations, the lifeblood of Rwandan hills.
Here, the trio paused for tastings, sipping coffee that spoke of rich soil and tradition.
