Dear Sir or Madam,
On May 12, international activists joined Kenyans in demonstrating against the “Africa Forward Summit.” The demonstration was peaceful. It had been registered with and approved by the Kenyan authorities. Nevertheless, the demonstrators were stopped after a short time and the demonstration was brutally attacked. Tear gas canisters were thrown at the demonstrators and shots were fired. At least 14 demonstrators were brutally arrested. While the Kenyan detainees were released on May 13, the five international activists remain in custody. The charges against the Kenyan activists have been dropped. The international activists have been detained for over 56 hours and have not been brought before a court. This is a clear violation of Article 49 of the Kenyan Constitution.
I urge you to secure the release of the illegally detained citizens from Greece, England, South Korea, and France. What are you currently doing to secure their release?

VICTORY ON THE RELEASE OF THE KENYAN COMRADES! RELEASE THE 5 PASAI INTERNATIONAL PROTESTERS!

Yesterday, 14 of the arrested protesters against the Africa Forward Summit were released after continuous pressure from both local and international organizations. Nine of them were released for lack of evidence. This is a victory for the mass movement in Kenya and international solidarity.

However, our work is not yet finished. Five international PASAI delegates arrested during the May 12th peaceful demonstration continue to languish in jail. We call on all progressive local and international organizations to continue pressuring the Kenyan government until all the protesters are released and the charges against them dropped!

UPDATE | At around 7 PM today, the police tried to nab CPMK General Secretary Booker Omole as he and other comrades were trying to negotiate the immediate release of international delegates who were arrested yesterday without any formal charges but are still detained at Central Police Station. The police fired two bullets during this commotion which led to their violent dispersal.

UPDATE | The 9 Kenyan protesters arrested yesterday have been released by the court as prosecution says they lack evidence and are withdrawing the charges. The 5 remaining protesters from France, United Kingdom, Greece, and South Korea remain detained in Kilimani and Central Police Stations, Nairobi, Kenya despite having no formal charges.

Let us continue the call for the immediate release of the following: Guy Bremond - France; Dimitrios Patelis - Greece; Joti Brar - Britain; Lee Sanghun - South Korea; and Song Danbee - South Korea.

UPDATE | The 5 students arrested yesterday, May 11, for expressing their opposition to the Africa-France Summit have been released on cash bail tonight.

The 14 anti-imperialist protestors arrested today, May 12, as they join an international and local delegation to deliver a written petition to Kenya Parliament remain detained by the Kenya Police.

We call all anti-imperialist forces to join the call for their immediate release and oppose the French imperialists attempt to reposition themselves in Africa.

UPDATE | Anti-imperialist students Tracy Auma, Patience Nyambura, Beres Omondo, Kenneth Obiero, and Samuel Jobunga were charged with unlawful assembly by the Kenyan court. This was after they expressed opposition to the reactionary Africa-France Summit which aims to reposition French imperialism in Africa after being ejected from the Sahel states.

Let us all join the call for their immediate release and dropping of charges.
