埼玉県寄居町の商工会が運営するコワーキングベース。寄居町の中心市街地に位置する元銀行の遊休施設をリノベーションして、地域の商工活動を盛り上げる目的で開設された。
商工会員を中心とする地元事業者の他に、地域外のデザイナーなど、地域に不足しがちなスキルを持つ人材が地元事業者と接点を持てる場として計画されている。
銀行時代から町民に親しまれてきた時代観を感じさせる外観を極力そのままに残しつつ、北側道路沿いの外壁を減築することで、縁側のようなベンチ席を設けた。
施設利用者に限らず、地域に開放することで、夏場の過酷な日差しを遮りつつ、身を休める場としている。
車社会の地域では、街を歩く歩行者が、強い日差しから逃れたり、気軽に脚を休める場が不足しているように感じられる。そのために、街を歩く人が益々減るという悪循環となり、街の商店街はより苦しめられているように思う。
商店街と駅とを結ぶ駅前通りの中心に位置する商工会の施設として、「街を歩く人を増やす」という遠回りかもしれないが、地域を盛り上げる姿勢を外部にあらわすことを意識して計画した。
A coworking base run by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Yorii-machi, Saitama Prefecture. Renovated from an idle facility of a former bank located in the downtown area of Yorii-machi, it was established with the aim of boosting local commercial and industrial activities.
It is planned as a place where local businesses, mainly members of commerce and industry, as well as designers from outside the region and other people with skills that are often lacking in the region, can come into contact with local businesses.
The exterior of the building, which has been familiar to local residents since the banking era, was kept as much as possible, while the exterior wall along the north side of the road was reduced to provide bench seating like a porch.
By opening it up to the community, not only to users of the facility, it provides a place to rest and shelter from the harsh summer sun.
In a car-dominated area, there seems to be a lack of places for pedestrians to escape the strong sunlight and casually rest their legs. This creates a vicious cycle that leads to fewer and fewer people walking the streets, and the shopping streets in the city seem to be suffering more and more.
As a facility of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, located in the center of the street in front of the station that connects the shopping district and the station, we planned this facility with the awareness of expressing to the outside world the attitude of "increasing the number of people walking in the town" that may be a roundabout way of enlivening the community.
