This September, you can join us in Portugal for a hands-on workshop dedicated to earth 3D printing.

The NAWA & EARTH3D workshop, taking place from 17–19 September 2026, will bring the research and knowledge developed through EARTH3D into a practical teaching environment.

Intricate shapes, same structural performance

With 3D concrete printing, we can create an almost endless variety of shapes and geometries. Designs can be adapted to different architectural styles, while parametric design makes it possible to create variations where every column is unique.

But design freedom is only part of the story. Can these complex printed shapes also perform as structural elements?
Absolutely.

The 3D-printed elements can function as permanent formwork, reinforced with steel rods and filled with concrete. This way, we can combine the geometric freedom of 3D concrete printing with the structural performance required from a conventional load-bearing column.

The result is a lot more freedom for architects and designers, without having to choose between expressive geometry and structural function.

Greenfield Residency 2026 | Results

We have our winners!

We’re excited to welcome Dr. Ioanna Symeonidou and her team from the University of Thessaly .of.Thessaly to Vertico later this year.

Their project explores something we haven’t tried before: 3D printing transparent concrete.Together, we’ll investigate what is possible, what limitations we encounter, and which fabrication strategies could work. We’ll experiment with the relationship between concrete, light and shadow, and see where robotic fabrication can take the idea.

We were especially happy to see students actively involved in the project and look forward to bringing the research into our facility for full-scale experimentation.

A huge thank you to everyone who applied for the Greenfield Residency 2026.

This year we received so many thoughtful and ambitious proposals from all over the world. We spent a lot of time discussing the projects as a team, and making the final decision was definitely not easy.

Our Largest Installation Yet | Portugal

A new milestone for Vertico.

We’re proud to announce the installation of our largest system delivered to date at Itecons in Portugal, an institute dedicated to applied research, testing, and innovation in construction, energy, environmen and sustainability. As a bridge between academia and industry, ITeCons develops new construction technologies and supports research into innovative building materials and systems, making it an exciting place for advanced concrete printing.

The installation features our Robot on Track system with a 10-meter track and a 3.1-meter robot reach, giving the team the flexibility to produce large-scale concrete elements.

To celebrate the installation, we also reached a new Vertico milestone by printing our tallest column yet at 3 meters high.

We’re excited to see more researchers, students, and industry partners gain access to this technology and explore what is possible with large-scale 3D concrete printing.

A big thank you to the ITeCons team for the collaboration. We wish you many successful prints and look forward to seeing the innovative projects that will come out of your new lab.

Behind the Layers | DASA Wall in the Making

Ever wondered what it takes to print a concrete wall with a unique design?
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the fabrication of our demonstrator for the Working World Exhibition in Dortmund.

Using our Accelerator Printhead, the concrete gains strength almost immediately after extrusion, making it possible to print deep overhangs, complex textures, and smooth transitions in a single continuous process. Combined with our integrated color station, each layer can also be precisely colored as it is printed.

The result is a wall with two distinct personalities: a clean, minimal exterior and a highly articulated interior that showcases what accelerated 2K concrete printing makes possible.

The applications for Greenfield 2026 are now closed.

We’re incredibly grateful to have received so many thoughtful, innovative, and highly competitive applications this year.

This year, we’re excited to welcome applicants from across the globe, including Australia, Ecuador, Germany, the Netherlands, Peru, Spain, Turkey and Egypt. It’s inspiring to see such a diverse range of ideas and approaches to 3D concrete printing.

Our team is now carefully reviewing all submissions, and we’ll soon begin the interview round.

Last Chance to Apply | Greenfield Residency 2026

Time is running out! This is the last week to submit your application for the Vertico Greenfield Residency 2026.

If you’re a professor, assistant professor, or studio supervisor, this is your opportunity to give your students hands on experience with industrial robotic fabrication and turn research ideas into full scale prototypes.

Whether your project explores 3D concrete printing, robotic milling, clay printing, or another experimental fabrication process, we welcome innovative proposals that make meaningful use of robotics.

Over the past editions, Greenfield has brought together academic teams from Egypt, Turkey, Germany, and the United States, resulting in exciting collaborations and full scale research projects.

Printing a Living Wall | Behind the Process

This prototype, developed in collaboration with HKS and , explores how 3D printing can create architectural surfaces that are both structurally efficient and biologically active.

At first glance, the folds and pockets appear to be designed purely for plants. In reality, they serve another purpose as well. One of the key goals of this prototype was to understand how tangent folds can increase rigidity and structural performance, allowing shallow overhangs to be printed without additional reinforcement.

The geometry creates a network of planting pockets connected by recessed channels designed to transport water and nutrients throughout the wall. At the same time, the folds strengthen the structure, demonstrating how geometry can contribute to both environmental function and structural stability.

Projects like this highlight one of the most exciting aspects of concrete 3D printing: the ability to combine multiple functions into a single printed element, where structure, planting, and architectural expression become one integrated system.

Greenfield Residency | Human & Robot in Sync

As part of the Greenfield Residency, students from in Berlin under the supervision of developed a pavilion prototype that explores how robotic concrete printing can create engaging social spaces.

The pavilion is composed of just two repeating elements. When assembled, they form a semi-enclosed space that naturally invites people to sit, meet, and have conversations.

The shingles are inserted directly during printing and feature openings that allow the concrete layers to bond together. It’s a simple detail that makes the assembly possible while showcasing collaboration between robot and operator.

This project perfectly reflects what the Greenfield Residency is all about: giving academic teams access to industrial robotic technology and the opportunity to test ambitious ideas at full scale. Watching a concept evolve from a digital model into a built space is an experience that simply can’t be replicated in the classroom.
