Since the formation of INT (5th May, 1944), Gautambhai was instrumental in improvements in back-stage, front-of-the-stage techniques, designing, training the workers and implementing unique sets, lights, special effects for various productions of INT.
INT produced bellets/musical dramas, classical music, dances, intercollege theatre and organized folk dance competitions.
INT services wing provided stage designing, sets, lights and properties to various private and commercial theatrical productions as well as events organized by the government, corporates, fashion and films industry. The INT services wing managed by Gautambhai turned out to be the largest source of revenue over the years.
Gautambhai toured extensively across many countries to observe and study the intricate details of the venues, various technologies used in building stages andlights. He also mastered and implemented newer techniques used in designing sets, depicting multiple sets (using levels, revolving, sliders, wagon and floating), lightings (using lights, cyclorama, gauze curtains, film, slides) in context to the
given locales.
Gautam Joshi has also written few technical articles to spread awareness and education about theatrical techniques. Important articles are "Designing A Play"(Eng),"Bhajavni ma Technique no Upyog" (Guj) (Use of techniques in theatrical performances) and "Russia na Natyagruho" (Guj) (Theatres of Russia). He has also judged many drama competitions (full citation details are unavailable).
The INT productions reached out to varied demographies and languages such as Marathi, Parsi, Gujarati, Hindi, Bengali and English as many productions used to travel across the states or internationally which entertained massive audiences and spreaded awareness about the messages each production sent out to the society.
Gautam Joshi has helped many artists, directors, professionals, businesses, productions and venues directly and indirectly through his stageworks. The massive influence of many celebrities and eminent artists had contributions from Gautambhai's works also. To mention few are, Sunil Dutt, Rajesh Khanna, Vaijanti Mala, Hema Malini, Sitaradevi, Gopi Krishna, Kanak Divecha, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pt. Ravishankar, Pt. Shivkumar Sharma, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasiya, Jagjeet Singh,Pankaj Udhas, Purushottam Upadhyay, Ila Arun, Dolly Thakore, Alyque Padamsee, Dinyar Contractor, Tarak Mehta, Sarita Joshi, Siddharth Randeria, Pt. Yogesh Samsi and Parthiv Gohil. Most of these artists have received national awards.
Besides Engineering, all forms of Arts resided in his Heart, We are sharing a poetry written and recited by him...as he was extremely influential in reviving "Mushaira" in Gujarati Audiences, as well.
Born on 3rd November,1927, one of the Cofounders of Indian National Theatre, who brought life to the Indian Stages and Theatres, Shri Gautam Joshi, Passed Away on 10th April, 2025...
