Kaal Bhairav Jayanti — also known as Bhairav Ashtami — is celebrated to honor Lord Kaal Bhairav, a fierce manifestation of Lord Shiva associated with time (Kaal), protection, and the destruction of evil.
Here’s the detailed significance and background 👇
🔱 Mythological Significance
According to Hindu scriptures, the origin of Kaal Bhairav is described in the Shiva Mahapurana:
• Once, Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu were arguing about who was the supreme creator.
• In anger at Brahma’s arrogance, Lord Shiva manifested as Kaal Bhairav, a terrifying form symbolizing the power of time and truth.
• In his wrath, Kaal Bhairav cut off one head of Brahma, symbolically destroying ego and false pride.
• Because of this act, he was cursed to carry Brahma’s skull until freed from sin — which he finally was in Kashi (Varanasi), hence the city’s deep association with Bhairav.
🕉️ Spiritual Meaning
• Kaal Bhairav represents the destructive aspect of time, reminding devotees that time spares no one.
• He protects dharma (righteousness) and punishes wrongdoing.
• Worshipping him is believed to remove fear, sins, and obstacles, and grant courage and discipline
