Resham Khana Arts Festival Reasham Khana Arts Festival is a community project to kick start the revival of the beautiful old Silk Factory in Solina, Srinagar.

Resham Khana Arts Festival - 29th September - 2nd October, 2016. The idea is to begin the revival process of the silk
factory and the city through a community arts festival. The place will come alive with art installations, photography exhibitions, film screenings, local food and culture. The aim is to create a cultural space for exchange of ideas, joy, and creativity, something the city is lackin

g in. The immediate community in Solina will be an integral part of putting this festival together along with young artists, journalists, students and architects from Kashmir. We hope for this event to be one of the focal points in a greater campaign to revitalise old Srinagar. About the Silk Factory :
Once the largest silk factory in the world, and one
of the first to use mechanised systems to produce silk the magnificent building at Solina in Srinagar, built in the early 19th century still stands tall and beautiful. it represents Kashmir’s rich heritage and history in crafts and was once the pride of the city, providing over 60 thousand jobs to the city people. Today this industrial heritage building is abandoned but its
architecture and beauty have stood the test of time. With rows of mulberry trees separating the various structures, grass flowing between like green rivers, this place is truly one that needs to be preserved and cherished. If you are an artist of any kind from Jammu & Kashmir and you want to be part of this festival please email [email protected]

The architectural design speaks of its grandeur by way of buttress walls, double height windows, sloping roof profiles together defining the architectural language of the building and telling upon their heritage. The steel roof and its angle iron beams are anchored to the brick walls callously breaking the brick patterns'
