NEW MANAGEMENT | NEW VISION | A NEW CHAPTER FOR DPIFF

Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival (DPIFF) is proud to announce the appointment of Zenil Shah as Festival Director.

With over a decade of experience across live events, experiential marketing, large-scale productions and cultural properties, Zenil Shah brings to DPIFF a distinctive combination of strategic leadership, creative thinking and executional excellence.

His career has been shaped by working at the intersection of storytelling, experience and large-scale production, where vision must translate into reality and every detail contributes to the audience experience.

A graduate in Experiential Marketing from Whistling Woods International, Zenil’s professional foundation is deeply rooted in the world of cinema and creative arts. This cinematic perspective informs the way he approaches every production, not simply as an event, but as an experience with its own narrative, rhythm, scale and emotional impact.

As Festival Director, Zenil will bring together the worlds of cinema, culture, creativity and live experiences to shape the next chapter of DPIFF.

His appointment marks an important step in DPIFF’s continued evolution, with a renewed focus on stronger programming, elevated festival experiences, meaningful industry engagement and a forward-looking vision for Indian cinema and its global cultural footprint.

A new leadership. A renewed vision. A bigger stage for cinema.

Welcome to the next chapter of Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival.

Faith-driven cinema has repeatedly proven that a powerful story can become a box-office phenomenon. From Kantara’s cultural impact and Hanu-Man’s superhero success to Hanuman Ansh and Laalo’s extraordinary returns on modest budgets, these films connected with audiences far beyond expectations. Mahavatar Narsimha also broke new ground for Indian animation by crossing ₹300 crore worldwide.

These films show how mythology, spirituality, culture and strong audience word-of-mouth can translate into massive theatrical success.

Two devotional films, two extraordinary box-office stories. Gujarati film Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate turned a ₹50 lakh budget into around ₹120 crore, while Hanuman Ansh, made on a reported budget of around ₹2 crore, has crossed the ₹120 crore mark and continues its remarkable theatrical run.

Both films prove that strong storytelling, audience connect and word-of-mouth can create box-office breakthroughs even without massive production budgets.
