“Techies at Work” is a test of knowledge and fabrication. It is a challenge of not only designing but inventing something altogether different from the given list of material.
EVENT DESCRIPTION
The event comprises of two rounds:
ROUND 1:
All the participants have to register in a team of four. All the participants will be given a list of things from which they are free to fabricate or design any working model. This material has to be brought by the teams themselves. No material would be given to apart from power supply, Multimeter, solder wire and solder iron .Further every team would have to mail an abstract about their model which would include a suitable title, principle, material used and working condition. Based on the abstract mailed by the teams ten will qualify to the next round.
The list of things include-
• Battery
• Nail
• Screw
• PVC Pipes
• Wood
• Holder
• Wireless control
• Motor- (General purpose dc motor)
• Straw
• Cardboard/Cartons
• Bottle caps

NOTE :
The motors have to be general purpose small motors, which can work on 12V D.C. supply. The power supply (220 V AC) will be supplied at the venue. Further no other material other than the above mentioned material can be used.
ROUND 2:
This round will be based on design or fabrication. The participants will be given scrap material. They are free to fabricate or design any working model using the scarp material. Further all the material requirements have to be brought by the participants themselves. No material apart from solder wire, soldering iron and power supply will be provided at the venue.
RULES & REGULATION
ROUND 1:
• All participants are required to register in a team of four.
• The team will have to send the abstract of not more than 100-150 words by 13th March, 2012.
• Further every team has to give a valid caption for its invention.
• The teams will have to mention the material used , Principle and working.
• Compatible Format-Ms-Word
• Font-Times new roman, Size-14 (justified, 1.5 spacing)
• Captions size-16, BOLD
• Usage of material, Novelty of concept, Principle and practical reliaseability.
ROUND 2:
• The shortlisted teams will be given 240 mins for fabrication of material. Further, the teams should not have made any circuitry prior to the time allotted.
• Post fabrication, one member from each team will have to present the working model to the judges.
• In case of any damage to the part while fabrication, no replacement will be provided.
• Exchange of material is not permitted.
CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION:
creativity, use of material, concept, presentation and working condition.
JUDGEMENT CRITERIA
Round 1-
• Material usage (15)
• Concept/Principle (15)
• Practical Feasibility (20)
• For team to qualify to the next round will require a minimum total of 30 out of 50.
• Further this is just a pre-requisite for the next round.
• No marks of this round will be added in the grand total of the final round.
Round 2-
• Principle (10)
• Creativity/Innovation(30)
• Material used(20)
• Presentation(15)
• Explanation(15)
• Total(100)
• More the material utilisation more would be the score.
• Innovation in any kind would be given weightage.
• Working Model will be given more advantage.
