La Parabole de Plantables
You can read it as ‘The Story of Plantables’, but I’d rather you read it as ‘The Power Behind Plantables’.

There are a myriad of different reasons and situations that led to the birth of Plantables. The most widely shared one is, of course, the story of how Sumat and I were looking for a sustainable wedding card back in 2016 (a decade ago! Wao!) and, due to the challenges we faced in finding suitable seed paper wedding card options, we ended up making our invites ourselves, with tomato and chilli seeds embedded in purple paper made from upcycled cotton scraps. We made around a 1,000 cards combined. (Everyone was invited, and then some.)

But the story goes a bit further back… a version not often shared.

Seedhi seedhi baat hai, waste badhana paap hai.

Think about it for a second.
This one planet, in all that endless space, gave us everything. Clean air. Water. Soil that grows food. Seasons that return, again and again.
She asks for nothing. She just gives.
And somewhere along the way, we stopped noticing.
But sometimes we do.
That moment when a kid stops to watch a caterpillar. When the first rain hits dry ground and everything smells alive again. When you hold a seed and realize, there’s an entire garden inside it. A tree. A fruit. An entire forest, waiting in the palm of your hand.

That feeling isn’t nostalgia. It’s the planet reminding us it’s still here. Still giving.

At Plantables, everything we make is rooted in that feeling. Products that don’t end in landfills, they return to the earth. Some grow into wildflowers. Others simply become one with the soil again. Beautiful things that leave nothing behind.

And if you’ve already made the switch, chosen a plantable card, gifted something that grows, picked the better option even when it wasn’t the easier one, thank you, for being a part of this story. 🫶🏻💚

And if you haven’t yet, today’s a beautiful day to start. 🌱

Happy Earth Day 🌍

Working with has been one of our most valued long-term associations, one that has grown from plantable bags, to notebooks and stationery for events, to something far more embedded in their customer experience.

They recently introduced a plantable welcome letter for new car owners as part of their welcome kit. This letter, printed on upcycled cotton rag paper with basil seeds embedded in it, is personalised with a message from the head of each dealership. We’ve made these for over 18 dealerships across 23+ cities so far, and counting. 🫶🏻🌱

, a dealership in Uttar Pradesh, wanted black seed paper bags, we made it for them with wildflower seeds embedded in the paper. It took us multiple rounds of samplings to get the finish right without compromising on the quality of the seeds, but the final look was worth it 😌💚

What makes projects like these meaningful beyond the product is what they represent.
For a brand like Mercedes-Benz, this is sustainability in action, a tangible step towards their ESG commitments, built into their customer touchpoints.

At Plantables, every unit produced is handmade by artisans and paper crafters from a tier 2 city. So when a brand of this scale chooses sustainable materials and enables startups working at the grassroots, it directly supports livelihoods, creating demand for skilled, dignified work in communities that need it most.

That’s the part that ties it all together. Environmental impact and social impact, in the same product.

Relationships like these grow one product at a time. One experiment at a time. And we’re grateful for every one of them.

If you’re looking to make your brand touchpoints more sustainable, we’d love to explore that with you.

Thank you Mercedes-Benz India for the continued trust.

For the 7th Winter Session on Dayalbagh (Art) Science (& Engineering) of (Evolutionary/Re-Evolutionary) Consciousness (DSC 2026), hosted by Dayalbagh Educational Institute, Agra, we once again had the opportunity to make a full stack sustainable, plastic-free conference kit.

Here’s what the kit included:
• Cotton canvas tote bag
• Plantable conference name badges with hand-stitched cotton lanyards
• Certificates for participants and award winners
• Folders made from upcycled handmade cotton rag paper
• Program schedules printed on cotton handmade paper
• Customised bamboo pens

DSC is one of the few conferences in India dedicated to the science of consciousness, a subject that’s becoming increasingly relevant in mainstream discourse. The conference series is a collaboration between DEI and leading global universities including UBC, Waterloo, ASU, Birmingham, Western, and Kiel.

As co-founders, we are both proud graduates of Dayalbagh Educational Institute. But our relationship with the institute goes far deeper than that.

The institute’s philosophy has shaped how we think about materials, about work, about purpose. DEI’s deep emphasis on quality, values, and conscientiousness in work and life is the bedrock on which Plantables stands. The idea that waste is not refuse but material to be transformed with care into something of value.

None of what Plantables has built would have been possible without the foundational guidance of DEI and its leadership.

There’s something quietly meaningful about being able to serve the place that shaped you, through the very work it helped inspire.

Grateful to DEI and the DSC organising committee for the trust.

Conference kits are one of our most popular ranges, fully customisable, end to end, with sustainability built into every element. If you’re planning an event, we’d love to help you make it sustainable. 💚

5,97,000 plantable fold cards with cotton handmade paper sleeves. 45 days. One of the largest and most demanding projects we’ve taken on.

Small confession, we’ve been users since the early days of Plantables. So when this project came through, for ’s 20th anniversary, it felt really special.

But special doesn’t mean easy.

These cards were made using seed paper, carefully processed, printed with water-based inks, folded, and inserted into handcrafted upcycled cotton rag paper pockets. The entire journey from making the raw material to the finished product came together in 45 days.

Seed paper doesn’t behave like conventional paper. Cotton rag paper doesn’t either. No heat. No pressure. Because the seeds embedded in every sheet need to survive the making to do what they’re meant to do, grow.

Working with natural materials is tricky enough. Nearly six lakh units, end to end, in 45 days, while ensuring consistent quality, is a different conversation entirely.

We had to scale rapidly and expand our capacity to meet this challenge. New team members came in and were trained on the go, many women from our surrounding communities joined us.

The team came together in a way we hadn’t seen before. Day shifts. Night shifts. Weekends that blurred into weekdays. There was a quiet determination on the floor that no brief or deadline could have manufactured. It just showed up. Because the people showed up.

This is the part of the work that often goes unseen. Not just what we make, but who we get to make it with, and how that circle keeps growing with every project.
Plantable fold cards, inserted into pockets made from upcycled cotton rag paper. Travelling across the country on IndiGo flights. Carrying not just a message, but the possibility of becoming something more.

It’s always the projects that scare you a little that end up showing you what you’re actually capable of.
There is immense strength and quiet magic within all of us. Often, it’s just our own mind that decides the ceiling.

Grateful to Zoho CRM for the trust.

When was the last time you discovered you were stronger than you thought?

For East-West Seed, we designed a plantable desk calendar that celebrates vegetables, flowers, and seasons.

Each month was illustrated and custom-cut to reflect the vegetable or flower it represents, turning every page into something tactile, playful, and memorable.

But what makes it truly special is what happens after the month ends.
Instead of being discarded, each sheet is planted. Printed on seed paper made from upcycled cotton waste, every page grows into plants, transforming a simple calendar into something living.

Beyond function, calendars become a storytelling tool, a way to carry your brand across twelve months, while leaving something behind that actually grows.

And we make them all year round. Not just in January. Because not every beginning starts on the first day of the year.
New financial year. New teams. New events. New journeys. Or simply, a fresh start.
We design calendars that start when you do.

The possibilities are wide. From minimal desk formats to playful, sculptural designs. From corporate gifting to school projects. From large-scale events to personal milestones.

If you’re exploring a custom, sustainable calendar for your next milestone, we’d love to create one with you. 🌱💚

At Plantables, we’ve shipped to 43 countries and created products in over 18 languages.
So when COSPAS-SARSAT, the international satellite-based search and rescue system, needed sustainable giveaways for their global teams across languages and borders, it felt like the project we’d been preparing for.

With representatives across countries, the kits were produced in English, French, and Russian, and shipped to their headquarters in Canada.

Each piece was thoughtfully made to reflect both function and identity:
• Custom canvas tote bags in their signature red, blue, and white, hand-stitched, with patterned pockets and bold red handles
• Seed paper cover notebooks, adding a subtle but meaningful sustainable touch
• Fabric keychain tokens with their branding

Everything was designed to feel cohesive, useful, and true to a global organisation that quite literally saves lives.

What made this project special was its scale and sensitivity, balancing language, identity, and consistency across borders.

For us, it’s always been about more than just making products.
It’s about bringing together design, sustainability, craftsmanship, and purpose, across geographies.

If you’re a business, or know someone in sourcing or procurement looking for authentic, sustainable manufacturing partners with a strong focus on environmental and social impact, tag them here.

And if you’re exploring quality, sustainable merchandise tailored to your brand, we’d love to connect.

Some projects push you creatively. Some push you operationally. And some do both. This was one of them.
For the Next Billion Forum 2025, hosted by , we were entrusted with creating conference kits for a room full of leaders shaping India’s future, featuring distinguished guests like Mr. N R Narayana Murthy, Mr. Amitabh Kant, Mr. Mohandas Pai, Japanese delegates, and other leaders from across the impact and investment ecosystem.

The brief was clear: minimal, elegant, and completely sustainable.

The reality? Tight timelines. High expectations. Zero room for compromise.

We crafted a fully plastic-free conference kit using custom seed papers embedded with wildflower and marigold seeds.

Each element was carefully made:

• A signature wildflower seed paper folder in black with a ginkgo-inspired seed paper pocket
• A custom notebook with a black marigold seed paper cover
• Bamboo pens with subtle engraved branding
• Seed paper conference badges with cotton lanyards

Every element was biodegradable. Every detail intentional.

What made this project special wasn’t just the outcome, it was the process. Late nights. Last-minute iterations. Carrying the final kits to Bengaluru ourselves, just in time.

Because when the room matters, the details matter even more.

Events generate enormous waste. But they don’t have to. If gatherings are about shaping the future, the materials we use should reflect it too.

Sustainable events aren’t an alternative anymore. They’re the way forward. 🌱

Spicy, but make it sustainable 🌶️

For , a quirky, bold designer label...we crafted a packaging suite that doesn’t just carry the product, it becomes part of the story.

Using upcycled cotton waste, we developed custom seed paper embedded with chilli seeds (yes, actual chillies 🌶️), brought to life across their entire packaging: boxes, garment tags, brand story postcards, and mailers.

Paired with custom tissue paper and compostable bioplastic mailers, every detail was thoughtfully designed, right down to the leopard print surprise inside the box.

Bold, playful, and planet-positive, just like the brand.

Packaging often ends up in landfills.
But when brands choose differently, it becomes an opportunity to tell a story that grows.

If packaging is part of your brand story, let’s build it right!

It’s been a while since we shared what we’ve been up to. A lot has been happening behind the scenes.
As we step into the new financial year, we will be sharing some of the work we had the opportunity to craft over the past year. An FY25-26 wrap, if you will!

2,25,000 units.
From a message… to a moment… to something that grows 🌱

For Godrej Woods, we made more than just a marketing insert.
A seed paper story you hold, unfold, and eventually plant.

A tactile, seed paper experience tucked inside a leaf-inspired pocket,
distributed across locations through quick commerce partners,
turning everyday deliveries into brand experiences.

Every fold carried their philosophy.
Every fiber held the promise of growth.

Made in Agra using upcycled cotton waste and FSC-certified paper.

If you’re a brand looking for sustainable marketing, eco-friendly packaging, gifting, or custom campaign collaterals that people don’t just see,
but experience, remember, and grow...
Let’s create something beautiful together 💚
