An article in TOI reports.."It is understood the US diplomatic vehicles will now attract penalties for all traffic-related offences such as unauthorized parking, red light jumping, dangerous driving, etc." Two things stick out...First, unauthorized parking seems to lead the pack of traffic offences, but second which is more important, why were they not charged all this while??

Chennai Metro to have Park-and-ride facilities for bicycles. A cost-effective option to bring commuters to stations as multi-storeyed parking lots for cars many not be viable near metro rail stations.

Chennai parking rates are least in the world, closely followed by Delhi, Mumbai and B'lore. If one closely observes the list, cities with high parking rates have good public transport systems. Counter-intuitive ah? Indian city administrators should take a cue from this. Overall there has been an uptick in India city parking rates, the last 12 months.
