At YVDSS, learning history is not confined to books- it comes alive through experience.
A 10-day workshop on ancient Indian scripts and inscription traditions is currently being organized for Master's and Ph.D. scholars from various institutions, including Sanskriti University, Puri. The workshop introduces participants to the evolution and significance of age-old scripts such as Brahmi and Pali, their role in communication, and the diverse methods used for preserving knowledge through inscriptions on stone, palm leaves, and metal plates.
It is inspiring to witness young scholars showing keen interest, actively participating in discussions, practicing ancient scripts, and even beginning by writing their own names in these historic writing systems.
Adding to the excitement, YVDSS Director Sri Bipin Mohanty visited the workshop and interacted with the participants. Upon learning about his documentary work on Odisha's Buddhist heritage sites, the organizers arranged a special screening of his documentary on Udayagiri. The film was warmly received by both students and faculty members, enriching their understanding of Odisha's rich cultural and Buddhist legacy.
Such initiatives help bridge the past and the present, nurturing appreciation for our invaluable heritage among the younger generation.
