We are thrilled to announce the final team standings from the Women's and Open Divisons of Sakkath 2023 ✨️🏆 Congratulations to all the teams that participated!
Some behind the scenes information for all those interested:
In the Open Division, we had created random equal-power pools A and B, of 16 teams each. Within these groups itself, 6 rounds of swiss draw matches took place. This was done primarily to avoid back-to-back matches for open division teams, while roughly knowing at what time their matches could be. Following the swiss draw games, we provided for just one cross-pool final with a team in the same position. Eg, A1vB1, A2vB2, A3vB3.
Due to this format, all we can guarantee is that the best team won the tournament. However, every finishing position after that, may have been out of place by a position or so. This discrepancy might be exaggerated in the middle of the table, where teams were tied on points and had to face one-sided final games. Having quarters/semis cross-pool would have made the standings more accurate, however, would have made the scheduling more complicated, hence we avoided it.
The idea of Sakkath 2023 was just to experiment with a new format, provide for exciting close matches, and avoid re-matches. While the final standings are largely accurate and presented before you, do take them with a pinch of salt 🤞🏼
