Lifts Title of U-17 Cricket League of Classics Tournament

Block Bijbehara emerged as champions of the U-17 Cricket League of Classics under the Youth Empowerment Engagement Plan (YEEP) after defeating Block Anantnag by a narrow margin of 6 runs in the final played today at BHSS Bijbehara Ground.
Batting first, Block Bijbehara set a competitive target of 133 runs. Abid Hameed played a brilliant knock of 53 runs, while Soliha contributed a valuable 35 runs to strengthen the total. From the bowling side, Salman delivered a remarkable performance, claiming a five-wicket haul to put Bijbehara in a commanding position.
In reply, Block Anantnag fought valiantly till the last ball but fell short of the target, losing the match by 7 runs. Abeek was the top scorer for Anantnag with 32 runs. For Bijbehara, Abid Hameed shone with the ball as well, taking 4 crucial wickets, while Soliha chipped in with 2 wickets.
During the post-match presentation ceremony, Abid Hameed was declared Man of the Match for his outstanding all round performance, scoring 53 runs and taking 4 wickets.
The tournament was organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports Anantnag under the Youth Empowerment Engagement Plan (YEEP) at various venues across the district. Anantnag Clinches U-19 YEEP Cricket League of Classics Title*

Block Anantnag lifted the title of the U-19 YEEP Cricket League of Classics after defeating Block Bijbehara in the grand finale held today at BHSS Bijbehara Ground.
Batting first, Block Bijbehara posted a competitive total of 158 runs. Zeeshan Zahoor top scored with 47 runs, while Kamran Khurshid and Imran Ali contributed 18 runs each.
In response, the bowlers of Block Anantnag displayed remarkable discipline, with Shariq claiming four crucial wickets. Arjumand, Hameem, and Sahil also chipped in with important breakthroughs to restrict Bijbehara to a manageable total.
Chasing the target, Block Anantnag showcased composure and dominance from the outset. Arjumand played a splendid knock of 55 runs, ably supported by Sahil Sabzar who added 41 runs. Their match winning performances guided Block Anantnag to a comfortable five wicket victory, thereby clinching the championship title.
In the post-match presentation ceremony, the Principal of BHSS Bijbehara, Mr. Mohammad Iqbal Ganie, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, accompanied by officials of the Department of Youth Services and Sports Anantnag. Arjumand and Sahil were jointly adjudged as Men of the Match for their outstanding all round performances in the final.

Block Bijbehara and Block Anantnag have qualified for the grand finale of the U-17 YEEP Cricket League of Classics being held at BHSS Bijbehara under the aegis of the Department of Youth Services & Sports Anantnag. In the first U-17 semifinal, Block Bijbehara defeated Block Sagam in a well-contested match to secure their place in the final. Aabid Hameed delivered an impressive all-round performance, scoring 63 runs and claiming 2 wickets, for which he was declared Man of the Match.
In the second U-17 semifinal, Block Anantnag outplayed Block Hiller Shahabad to book their berth in the final clash. Salman was adjudged Man of the Match for his commendable performance of 42 runs and 1 wicket. The grand finals of both U-17 and U-19 categories will be played on February 24, 2026, at BHSS Bijbehara Ground. In the U-19 final, Block Bijbehara will face Block Anantnag in the title clash. Meanwhile, in the U-17 final, Block Anantnag will take on Block Bijbehara in the final contest. The tournament has been organised with the aim of engaging youth in positive sporting activities and promoting health, discipline, and physical fitness among the young generation of Kashmir.

*From Rural Grounds to Stadiums- League of Classics Kick Started by YSS Anantnag- JKDYSS begins new sporting Chapter*
The Directorate of Youth Services and Sports J&K under the jurisdiction of District Youth Services & Sports Office Anantnag successfully inaugurated the Panchayat Level Under-17 and Under-19 Boys’ Volleyball and Cricket Tournaments at various venues across the district under the ambitious Youth Empowerment Engagement Plan (YEEP) with the theme “League of Classics- Enjoy the Game.” The initiative aims to channelize the energy of youth towards constructive sporting activities, promote sports culture, and identify emerging talent at the grassroots level.
The Volleyball Tournament was formally inaugurated by the Additional Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Dr. Sandeep Singh Bali, at Sports Stadium Anantnag. While addressing the participants, he highlighted the transformative role of sports in shaping character, instilling discipline, and fostering leadership qualities among young athletes. He encouraged the youth to actively participate in sports, pursue excellence with dedication, and uphold the spirit of fair play both on and off the field.
Simultaneously, Cricket tournaments commenced with great enthusiasm and sporting fervour at multiple venues including Bijbehara, Hiller Bahie, and Shankarpora, witnessing overwhelming participation from budding cricketers. The matches provided a vibrant and competitive platform for young players to demonstrate their talent, teamwork, and competitive spirit in a professionally organized environment.
At Bijbehara, the Cricket Tournament was inaugurated by Excise & Taxation Inspector Tariq Darsaroo along with officials of the Youth Services and Sports Department. The opening fixtures generated excitement among players and spectators alike.
At Sports Stadium Hiller Bahie in Zone Bidder, the opening match in the Under-19 Boys category was played between Block Breng and Block Achabal. Batting first, Block Breng posted a competitive total of 148 runs. In response, Block Achabal successfully chased the target, scoring 149 runs in just 13.2 overs while losing only two wickets. Tehseen Manzoor from Block Achabal was adjudged Man of the Match for his outstanding and match-winning knock of 89 runs not out.
Similarly, the tournament at Shankarpora in Zone Doru commenced in a vibrant atmosphere. Two matches were played on the opening day. In the first match, Block Verinag defeated Block Shahabad by 7 wickets, with Mohammad Hazim Wani being declared Man of the Match. In the second match, Block Hillar Shahabad Qazigund registered a convincing victory by 4 wickets, and Ayan Majeed was adjudged Man of the Match for his impressive all-round performance.
As per the latest performance reports received from the venues, Aayan Mushtaq, Ayan Arshad, Suhail, Sahil Shameem, Fahaid Javaid, and Sanan Bashir have emerged as outstanding performers in their respective fixtures. Their remarkable display of skill, determination, and sportsmanship has earned appreciation from officials and spectators alike, setting high standards for the ongoing competitions.
The Directorate of Youth Services & Sports reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening grassroots sports development by organizing regular tournaments, talent identification programmes, and youth engagement initiatives. The competitions will continue as per the scheduled fixtures, and all participating teams have been advised to maintain discipline and uphold the true spirit of sports throughout the tournament.

Under the banner “Leagues of Classics–Enjoy the Game,” the Directorate of Youth Services & Sports J&K successfully conducted Youth Engagement Programme (YEEP) selection trials across various zones of Anantnag. The initiative witnessed overwhelming participation of boys in the Under-17 and Under-19 age groups, highlighting the growing sports culture and active community involvement at the grassroots level.
The trials in Cricket, Football, and Volleyball were organized in different zones including Verinag, Bijbehara, Qazigund, Shangus, Doru, Mattan, Achabal and other areas. The programme aimed at identifying talented youth, promoting fitness, teamwork, and discipline while channelizing their energy towards positive sporting activities.
More than 1,400 young players participated in the trials across the district on this day. The events were conducted in a transparent and systematic manner under the supervision of qualified technical staff to ensure fair selection for upcoming inter-block and district-level competitions.
The Department appreciated the coordinated efforts of Zonal Physical Education Officers, Physical Education staff, technical officials, volunteers, and local stakeholders for the successful conduct of the programme. The selected players will now represent their respective zones and blocks in forthcoming competitions.
The Directorate reaffirmed its commitment to continue organizing such initiatives to nurture sports talent and promote youth empowerment and healthy lifestyles.

*Building Tomorrow’s Champions- Volleyball Trials in Anantnag-YSS Takes the Initiative*

The Under-17 and Under-19 boys’ volleyball trials were part of a larger initiative being organized by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports and hosted by various districts across the Jammu & Kashmir. In Anantnag District, the entire process was supervised by the District Youth Services and Sports Officer, who closely monitored and guided the conduct of trials within the district to ensure adherence to established standards and procedures.
Under the banner “The League of Classics-Enjoy the Game,” the District Youth Services and Sports Office Anantnag, successfully conducted these trials across various zones and blocks with the objective of identifying and nurturing young sporting talent.
At Sports Stadium Mattan, trials were organized for Block Khovripora, witnessing enthusiastic participation from young and aspiring players from different Panchayats and wards. A total of 65 participants showcased their skills, fitness, and competitive spirit, reflecting a strong commitment towards sports and excellence.
In Zone Bidder, block-level volleyball trials were held at GHS Hiller (Block Sagam) and HSS Kokernag (Block Breng). The event recorded impressive participation of 274 players from U-17 and U-19 age groups.
Similarly, Zone Achabal organized trials at Sports Stadium Thajiwara, where players from all Panchayats of Block Achabal actively participated. A total of 172 boys took part in the event with great zeal and enthusiasm.
All trials were conducted in a disciplined and well-organized manner under the supervision of experienced coaches and officials, ensuring transparency, fairness, and smooth ex*****on. The participants displayed commendable technical skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship, making the selection process highly competitive.
The organizers expressed satisfaction over the overwhelming response and active participation of youth. These initiatives reaffirm the department’s commitment to nurturing grassroots talent and promoting a healthy sporting culture among young athletes.
Such events under “The League of Classics-Enjoy the Game” continue to provide a valuable platform for identifying and developing future sports stars of the region.
