After today's updated WAGR rankings a massive congratulations to Donnacha Halpin on earning his place on the prestigious World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) through the 'Flogas Irish Junior Open Elite Tour' ⛳️

Donnacha’s achievement is another example of the pathway our events provide for aspiring golfers to gain valuable ranking opportunities and compete on a recognised international stage 🌍

It is also fantastic to see Benjamin Oberholzer and Jamie Anderson continue to climb the World Amateur Golf Rankings following their performances at our recent Heritage event 👏

Most golfers understand what the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) is.

Far fewer understand how it actually works!

One of the biggest misconceptions is that you must play Ireland’s largest championships to earn meaningful WAGR points. While Ireland’s National Championships remain some of the most important amateur events in the country, WAGR points are awarded based on a combination of field strength, ranked players and performance - not simply field size.

That’s why official WAGR counting events, such as the 'Flogas Irish Junior Open Elite Tour', play an important role in providing ranking opportunities for golfers looking to begin and build their WAGR journey.

An important point that is often overlooked is that the more players who become WAGR ranked through events in Ireland, the stronger Irish golf becomes as a whole ☘️

As more players earn rankings:

• Elite Tour events become stronger
• National Championships become stronger
• Provincial Championships become stronger
• The overall strength of Irish fields increases

The reason is simple: the more ranked players competing in Irish events, the stronger those fields become within the World Amateur Golf Ranking system.

This isn’t about one event versus another.

It’s about creating more ranking opportunities, developing more ranked golfers, and strengthening amateur golf in Ireland for everyone.

A little bit of slow motion magic from our 'Flogas Irish Junior Open Elite WAGR Tour' competitor, Benjamin Oberholzer ✨⛳

Currently ranked World Number 2670, Ben delivered an impressive performance at last week’s Elite WAGR Tour Under 25 event at Heritage, finishing in 4th place.

With valuable ranking points secured, we expect Benjamin’s position in the World Amateur Golf Ranking to climb in the coming update ⬆️

Our next WAGR events take place at the beginning of July, with visits to Royal Belfast and Dungannon Golf Club. The tour will then move onto Tulfarris & Knightsbrook as we work our way through the final nine events of the 2026 season ⛳️

Congratulations to our first four players who have secured their place in the 'Flogas Irish Junior Open Tour Championship' Grand Final, which will take place at the world renowned Royal Portrush Golf Club on Sunday, 15th November ⛳️

This is a fantastic opportunity for the age category winners of each of our seasonal Tour Championships, with three more qualifiers still to be played,
