This year's winner of the John O'Donnell Cup was Dominic French. Dominic has taught children and adults sea swimming for several years as well as being an accomplished swimmer himself.
Sadly Dominic's Mum, Bríd McCole French, passed away in June. This nomination for Dominic was also in memory of his beloved Mum who was always proudly by his side and cheering him on at many swimming events. A worthy winner of the John O'Donnell Cup for 2026.

Congratulations to our cup winners yesterday. It was great to see so many taking part in the competitive swim. In the winners enclosure.... Over 35 Female: Dervilla Bailey, over 35 Male: Shane Doherty, under 35 Female: Alannah Cunningham and under 35 Male: Dominic French. Well done.

The Channel Cup Swim is always a great spectator event. Follow the swimmers this Saturday as they swim from Tommy's Island to the RNLI station. First swimmers will enter the water around 7:30pm. The swim is just over 1km and is tide assisted. Come out and support from the prom or cheer the swimmers in at the finish line at the Harry Ewing pier beside the RNLI station. RNLI Sligo Bay

Key details for Channel Cup Swim this Saturday 29th August
• Registration in person in RNLI station between 5pm – 6pm
• Swim to commence at 7:30pm from Tommy’s Island
• Swim finishes at the Harry Ewing pier beside the RNLI station
• Neoprene wetsuits are compulsory -full length wetsuit, full length sleeveless wetsuit or a shorty wetsuit (short sleeve and knee length) allowed only
• Complimentary BBQ afterwards at Austies Bar and Restaurant, where the winners of various cups will be announced
• The event is in aid of the RNLI station based in Rosses Point
