A tough but rewarding trip to the Palliative Care Unit today.

I am so pleased to announce the fundraising efforts amounted to €6365 for the Palliative Care Unit where dad spent his last 7 weeks cared for by the most amazing specialist team over there.

As a runner and coach myself who is so passionate about our sport, I was delighted to be able to produce something of significance and welcome athletes of all abilities to run in beautiful surroundings of Tralee.

Since its inception in 2018, The Tralee 10 miler and 5k Road race that takes place on Valentines weekend every year is continuing to grow year after year.

Thanks to the support from so many different sources - emergency services - guards, civil defence and volunteers, all an integral part of its success.

My aim is to enhance participant experience by way of good organisation, a friendly atmosphere and post race hospitality. It can only get better by taking on board constructive feedback to improve on in the next one so my planning hat is already on for year 😊

This year, the events fundraising success was hugely enhanced by the generous sponsorship from local businesses and it was greatly appreciated.

This sponsorship, the raffle money and the profit from the event all went to the amazing Kerry Hospice Foundation.

I would like to extend my warmest appreciation and thanks to all involved.

Thank you for taking part in my event if you were competing, participating or volunteering, making it a very meaningful and special day.

Looking forward to welcoming everyone back next year, 11/2/2024, don't forget to put this date in your diaries😊

Tralee was alive with the sound of an estimated 300 or so odd runners pounding the pavements early on Saturday morning as they took part in the Tralee 10-miler and 5k road race which acted as fundraiser for the Kerry Hospice Foundation.

Very special moments from the event, a day I will cherish forever❤️

A big hearty congrats and thank you to everyone that participated in the 4th Tralee 10 Miler/5k.

Runners and walkers came from near and far:

From all over Kerry, Limerick, Galway, Tipperary, Weatmeath and Dublin.

I know there was much confusion due to the fact that another 10 miler was organised for the following week and it certainly affected my numbers yesterday. Hopefully this wont be the case next year and the 5th Tralee 10 Miler and 5k on Valentine's weekend can get the numbers in deserves. I was thrilled with the sellout but ordered medals based on the impact the other event was going to have on mine!

Every local event deserves support and there are enough weekends in the racing calender to ensure participation for each is maximised by way of plenty gaps between each!

Anyway back to the bigger picture and the main focus of this fundraising event.

It was in support of the wonderful Kerry Hospice Foundation who are a voluntary organisation providing vital funding and support for Palliative Care services in Kerry, a charity so very close to our hearts.

To say I was overwhelmed yesterday is an understatement, we were blown away by the huge support given to this fundraising event and the generosity shown by people.

The main sponsors included The Bon Secours Hospital, Tralee, O' Dowd Properties and Kellihers Toyota garage.

A special mention for Jack who worked tirelessly in his efforts with dogged determination in his campaign to get so much sponsorship and donations for the Kerry Hospice.

Please know your sponsorship had a huge impact on the money raised for The Kerry Hospice and the race wouldn't have been as successful without it.

Every contribution made was vital and it couldn't succeed without your generosity.

We remembered our adored dad Michael Greaney who passed away 6 months on this day, an emotional day for sure but humbling. Days like it remind of how much we miss him.

We so are pleased with the sellout and success.
This is event is a testament to how well supported the wonderful Kerry Hospice Foundation and Palliative Care team are and are so deserving of every cent raised. We saw fist hand how amazing that team was during dad's end of life care.
He fought so hard until the bitter end.

He is on our minds everyday and forever in our hearts.

Thank you so much to everyone that helped out in anyway today.
Your time and energy made a huge difference.

🔸️ The Gardai, ️Civil defence, Kerry County Council.
🔸️Everyone who helped out and registration and refreshments and giving out medals.
They give their time so freely to make the event a success.
🔸️My sister Orla, I would be lost without you xx
🔸️Photgraphers, and Dermot from Traleetoday.ie for the fab photos on the course.
🔸️Lead car also sponsored by Kellihers garage for getting Oisin around the course safely.

I want to say a big thank you to the Rose hotel for hosting and allowing us to use their facilities once again.

Congratulations to the prize winners of the raffle

I strive to make my events as safe and enjoyable as possible for every participant. I was gutted over a mishap out on the course yesterday with directions at one point but every event is a learning one for me as an organiser. It takes a lot of time and effort to get the event off the ground and it is noted for next year and I promise to make no room for error!

I do welcome any constructive critism from your experience as a participant privately as I don't want anyone leaving with any issues.

There was a huge standard set for top class road racing in Kerry over the distance with Oisin Spillane and Niamh Clifford setting unbelievable course records of 51.54 and 60.35 respectively.

Wishing everyone one of ye every success in your running for the rest of 2023.

See ye back in February 2024 for the next one🙏

Thank ye all so much. It really meant the world to me seeing everyone coming together yesterday.

Fall in love with the journey you are making towards your goal and every mile will be magical. When we are running, everything else stops, running is our 'me-time'. It's just us and the road so enjoy every stop😊

Michelle Greaney, 2023 race director ❤️
