Ballintotis 4 Mile report.
NATIONAL RECORD FOR NIAMH ALLEN WHILE JEREMIAH SHEEHAN STARS ON A NIGHT OF OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES
Firstly, another fantastic event. It just seems to get better and better each year. Congratulations to John Cashman and his team. Another outstanding advertisement for athletics.
In terms of the winner, congratulations goes to Jeremiah Sheehan (North Cork AC) who ran the perfect race to land the first prize. 19:18 the winning time and he’s an athlete to watch out for over the next couple of months.
The ever consistent Sean Doyle (Cork City AC) ran another great race, clocking 19:28. We might have had another result if he didn’t go out as hard, however, you can’t fault a man for going it. Sean will be winning plenty of races over the next couple of months. Great to see a big crowd from Cork AC who were out in force. The newly formed club is going for strength to strength under the guidance of Rob Heffernan - Olympic and World Championship hero.
David Carter made the trip worthwhile from Galway to finish third. A fine performance to finish third in 19:36.
Special mention to young Cork City AC athlete Ben O’Reilly Murphy who had a superb run, 7th across the line, dipping under the magical 20-min barrier, clocking 19:57.
Niamh Allen (Leevale AC) is world class and she shattered the National Record - fourth overall and the First Lady in a top class 19:50. She really is a joy to watch in full flight. Exciting times ahead for Niamh and her Coach the great Donie Walsh.
Jessica Coyne (Leevale AC) continued her good form with a second placed finish in 21:47. While Hannah Steeds made it a clean sweep for Leevale AC, finishing third in 22:01.
