Hi all,
Reposting this Video again of "The Roots" as it was fondly known here in Cahersiveen. Founded and Run By Teacht Thar Saile Folk Club, we decided to add its Title " Cahersiveen Mountain Roots music to convey the feel that it was a Roots music weekend at its heart and that Roots Music live performance , participative inclusion and appreciation was front and centre.
We advertised our program early each year to allow communication of our ideal and invite participation and encouragement of inclusivity, while making sure this went on national and international event pages to highlight this. A lot of effort went into this, ensuring we used local photos, included bios and information pertaining to acts and information re local interests and amenities.
We have been recognised in the past as an event that prioritised local, national and international Roots music. Adding the Cahersiveen Mountain to the Roots title, aided in its link with the locality of Cahersiveen and our intention of making sure that the music from this region was central to the weekend, by highlighting its music and musicians, young and old ,that were already recognised or were up and coming Roots music creators. That we believe made the Roots work as a Roots weekend.
Posting this in response to enquiries re why we ( Teacht Thar Sáile Folk club) , ended the Roots weekend after May Bank Holiday 2024, after a series of events .
The Cahersiveen Chamber Alliance ran a weekend using our page and title in 2025 on a trial basis , but we have decided post feedback and discussion, not to continue with this arrangement (ie use of page and the Roots title )going forward re their future events on May Bank Holiday weekend. We wish them every success with new events that they intend to plan . On behalf of Teacht Thar Sáile Folk club , I would like to sincerely thank all of those who supported this special event, either by contributions through sponsorship or donation, Organisations that funded our weekend especially the Arts Council and Kerry County Council , Walsh’s Supervalu and indeed Cahersiveen Credit Union who were on board from day one along with local businesses . Thanks to all those who lent a hand with organising venues and logistics, advertising and promotion and fundraising . We want to thank all who came and Performed music . songs, poetry, participated in jams and sessions and open mics and especially those who came to listen and were such wonderful audiences. Thanks to our sound engineers, O Connors and OC printing. And Also Quirke’s Newsagents , The Dennehy family, all the venues who helped us so much.We would like to give a special mention to CAMOS for their support with our annual Launch and awards night and to the creators of our awards. We would like to remember the help and invaluable support of our dear friend Seamus Collins. Our Accommodation providers were super. Special mention to Alan Landers of San Antoine and Skellig accommodation.
Last but not least we have to give a very special thank you to our good friend John Nyhan , without whom we would never have been able to bring you all of the wonderful Bluegrass groups from Ireland , The USA and Europe. The Roots was greatly enhanced by his enthusiastic presence .
Thank you for all your support .
