🎶 🎻 ☘ West Wicklow Chamber Music Festival presents Sean Nós with Séamus and Caoimhe Uí Fhlatharta

The West Wicklow Chamber Music Festival will present a community-based Sean Nós workshop and concert programme led by renowned artists Séamus and Caoimhe Uí Fhlatharta. The event will combine participatory workshops with a public performance, celebrating Ireland’s rich oral and musical heritage.

The workshops will provide local singers and musicians in County Wicklow with the opportunity to engage directly with Sean Nós traditions, focusing on interpretation, ornamentation, rhythm, phrasing, language and the relationship between voice and instruments. Designed to be inclusive and accessible, they will support both experienced practitioners and those seeking to deepen their engagement with traditional music.

The programme concludes with a concert by Séamus and Caoimhe Uí Fhlatharta. Where appropriate, the event may include an informal showcase by workshop participants, offering audiences an insight into the creative process and creating a shared community experience.

The programme reflects themes of cultural diversity, intergenerational learning and regional identity. Through Sean Nós, an important element of Ireland and Europe’s intangible cultural heritage, it highlights the value of minority languages, oral traditions and community participation, while fostering cultural exchange and local engagement.

From July to December 2026, Ireland holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, providing an important opportunity to showcase the country’s role in shaping European policy and strengthening international partnerships. As part of the national EU Presidency programme, County Wicklow is proud to participate in a county-pairing initiative with Spain, fostering closer cultural, educational, economic, and civic links between our communities.

The County Wicklow EU Presidency Culture Programme celebrates the connections between Ireland and Europe through music, literature, and cultural exchange. Inspired by shared traditions and contemporary creativity, the programme brings together Irish and European artists to explore identity, heritage, and collaboration. From a multidisciplinary festival highlighting Irish and Spanish connections to traditional Sean Nós singing and an international jazz collaboration, the programme showcases the diversity of artistic practice across Europe while celebrating Wicklow’s vibrant cultural communities.

Together, these events create opportunities for audiences to experience world-class performance, participate in cultural traditions, and strengthen the friendships that connect local communities with Europe.
