“Pitch A Friend” was a social event that originated in Philadelphia in 2022, with the unique opportunity for people to franchise the idea to different cities around the world. Respecting the original team, our Hong Kong team started the franchising process in August. As a frequent participant and personal friend, we have noticed for the franchise at the very early stage.

However, to our dismay, we discovered that in late October, GenieFriends had launched the same event format with very similar name in Hong Kong, partnering with a Singapore organisation called .sg . When we reached out to discuss this, their representative promised to acknowledge our franchise and collaborate in coming social media posts and materials . Regrettably, they have since broken this promise.

As a frequent participant in GenieFriends events, we are outraged by their complete disregard for intellectual property rights and their failure to uphold their commitments to the community. This is a clear case of plagiarism, and it reflects poorly on the values and ethics of the GenieFriends organization, as a networking community for arts, creatives and startups. The community deserves better than this blatant disregard for intellectual property and broken promises.

Our franchisor is currently seeking legal advice and will take appropriate action.
