Promoting classical saxophone music 推動古典薩克斯管音樂 This is the reason why the Hong Kong International Saxophone Symposium is being held every year.

With Dr. Kenneth Tse as the Artistic and Executive Director of the Hong Kong International Saxophone Society, his dream is to bring back to Hong Kong and Asia an organized opportunity for students of the instrument to learn from world-class saxophonists whom they might not have the opportunity to meet otherwise. Together with other classical saxophone activities organized by the society, it is the

sincere hope of the society to help and encourage Asian saxophonists in their pursuit of higher level of performance.

在藝術及行政總監謝德驥博士帶領下的香港國際薩克斯管協會，他希望能給與香港及亞洲地區學習薩克斯管的學生一個有系統的機會向世界級頂尖的大師學習並能在亞洲繼續穩步推進古典薩克斯管的形象和教育。

也就是因為這樣，香港薩克斯管協會每年都會舉辦香港薩克斯管工作坊。再配合協會舉辦的其他推動古典薩克斯管音樂的活動，協會真誠的希望能幫助和鼓勵亞洲的薩克斯管吹奏者追求更高的音樂水準。

時間過得真係快，Five Sax IN-TIME 嘅音樂會距離而家已經過咗一星期。啱啱星期日收到細bird影嘅精彩照片，令我再有一次機會慢慢回味一下當晚嘅演出，我亦都想藉着呢個機會回顧一下籌備呢個音樂會嘅感受。

籌備呢場音樂會同以往有啲唔一樣，今次我俾咗自己一啲新挑戰，我希望可以用多啲唔同嘅方法宣傳音樂會，令到我可以接觸到不同層面嘅觀眾，我又希望宣傳手法能夠年青啲，等我可以吸引多啲人留意。我知道做音樂會行政唔係一件容易嘅事，我相信有搞音樂會嘅朋友都一定會同意，我哋要顧及同埋擔心嘅嘢真係非常多。不過我好感謝我有好多好朋友嘅提點同幫忙，令到今次音樂會能夠完滿成功。當我見到大家聽完音樂會開心滿足嘅笑容，聽到小朋友清脆嘅笑聲，所有困難，唔開心嘅經歷都已經一一忘記。希望大家都能夠享受呢場音樂會。

最後我想喺度最一次多謝Five Sax 帶俾我哋一場咁精彩嘅表演，我亦想多謝贊助團體一直對我哋嘅支持。當然我一定要多謝我嘅幕後團隊，你哋為音樂會嘅付出係有目共睹嘅，有你哋喺度，我真係一百萬個放心😊

最後最後，我喺度希望多謝每一位嚟聽音樂會嘅觀眾，無論你哋係第一次參加HKISS 嘅活動定係我哋嘅長期捧場客，希望每一次嘅活動都能夠令你更加喜歡色士風音樂。希望音樂能夠帶俾你好心情，令你忘卻所有煩惱！

Time really flies. It has already been a week since the “Five Sax IN TIME” concert. Last Sunday, I received the amazing photos taken by Kit, giving me another chance to slowly relive the performance that night.

Organizing Five Sax concert gave myself some new challenges since this time I wanted to try new methods to promote the concert, hoping to reach different levels of audience. I also wanted to use a younger approach in creating the promotion materials. I totally understand organizing a concert is not an easy task, and I believe anyone who has experience jn organising a concert will agree—there are countless things to take care of and worry about. However, I am very grateful to have had so many good friends offering valuable advice and help, which allowed this concert to be a complete success. When I saw the happy smiles on everyone’s faces after the concert, and heard the clear laughter of children, all the difficulties and unhappy feelings were instantly forgotten. I hope everyone enjoy watching this concert !

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Five Sax for bringing us such an amazing performance. I also want to thank our sponsors for their ongoing support. Besides, I must give a big hug to my behind-the-scenes team— your contributions to the concert are evident to all.

Lastly, I want to thank all of you who came and no matter it was your 1st time joining us or our long-time supporter, I hope every HKISS event can bring you joy and deepen your love for saxophone music.

FIVE SAX 薩克斯管樂手 – 香港薩克斯管演奏家吳漢紳✨

吳漢紳（Charles Hon Sun Ng，香港）為香港傑出古典薩克斯風演奏家，現居於香港及蘇黎世，曾與卡羅維發利交響樂團、克拉科夫學院管弦樂團、瑞士軍樂團及香港演藝學院管弦樂團演出德布西、伊貝爾、托馬西及格拉祖諾夫等經典協奏曲，亦與作曲家艾爾文・盧西爾合作推出黑膠唱片，並以「Duo Sung」於2015年獲得維也納費德里奧比賽獎項。

Let’s meet Hong Kong Saxophone player Charles Ng from FIVE SAX✨

Charles Hon Sun Ng ( Hong Kong)
Regarded as one of the most prominent saxophonists from Hong Kong, Charles has given concerts and masterclass all over the world. He is artistic director of the Dawn of Asia Saxophone Project. As a soloist, Ng has worked with numerous orchestras such as the Karlovy Vary Philharmonic Orchestra, Krakov Academic Orchestra, Swiss army band and the HKAPA Academy Orchestra, performing concertos by Debussy, Ibert, Tomasi and Glazunov. He worked with American composer Alvin Lucier to release a CD in 2017. He is currently lecturer at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

Five Sax 薩克斯管樂手 Álvaro Collao León✨

阿爾瓦羅・科拉奧・雷昂（Álvaro Collao León，智利）旅居維也納，是塔拉帕卡國際音樂節及智利薩克斯風音樂節的藝術總監，並曾於奧地利多個重要樂團與劇院演出，包括奧地利新音樂合奏團、維也納民眾歌劇院管弦樂團、克拉根福特市立劇院、PHACE 現代音樂合奏團、維也納聲音論壇與維也納薩克斯風樂團。他目前任教於維也納國立表演與藝術大學。

Alvaro from FIVE SAX ✨

Alvaro Collao Leon ( Chile)
Chilean saxophonist based in Vienna, artistic director of the Tarapacá international music festival and ChileSaxFest. He is a prize-winner of several international music competitions. Since 2012, he has been working with important institutions in Austria like the ÖENM Österreich Ensemble für Neue Musik, Wien Volkoper Orchester, Stadttheater Klagenfurt, PHACE Ensemble, Klangforum Wien and Vienna Saxophonic Orchestra. He is currently Lecturer of Saxophone at University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna.

Let’s meet Damiano Grandesso from FIVE SAX✨

Damiano Grandesso ( Italy)
Italian saxophonist, he is the artistic director of Alpen Classica Festival. Despite his young age, he played in the major concert halls of the world. Damiano is first prize winner of 12 national and international competitions including the Premio Masi 2017. He recorded cds with ARS, Azzurra Music, Orlando Records and Amadeus Arte. Since 2012, he has been invited several times to perform with the Bruxelles Philharmonic Orchestra and the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra.

Michal Knot from FIVE SAX✨

Michal Knot (Poland)

He has given concerts in such world-renowned concert halls as Carnegie Hall, Musikverein Vienna, Berlin Konzerthaus, Walt Disney Concert Hall Los Angeles, Tonhalle Zürich, Hermitage Theatre Saint Petersburg to name a few. He has been invited to perform in over 35 countries on five continents. As a member of Duo Aliada, Michal Knot won the Grand Prix at the 12th Fidelio Wettbewerb. He is also a recipient of the “Exceptional Pole” award, “New Austrian Sound of Music” and “Mloda Polska” scholarship, given to the most successful Polish artists.

喬爾・迪格特（Joel Diegert，美國）曾在多項國際重要比賽中獲獎，包括2006年北美薩克斯風聯盟比賽首獎，以及隆戴克斯薩克斯風大賽和高第馬斯演奏家大賽。他於2018年完成博士研究，主題為將現場電子音效與薩克斯風結合的應用。

He has won prizes at several major international competitions, including his first prize win of the 2006 North American Saxophone Alliance competition, and prizes at the Londeix Saxophone Competition and the Gaudeamus Interpreters Competition. Joel’s doctoral research has been focused on the topic of using live electronics in combination with the saxophone.

香港國際薩克斯管工作坊2024

今年嘅香港國際薩克斯管工作坊，隨着上星期六中午大師班嘅完結亦都告一段落。今年嘅工作坊真的得來不易，但多謝所有人嘅支持同埋帮助，令到工作坊能夠順利舉行，亦都獲得大成功。

喺呢度首先要多謝兩位遠道而來嘅薩克斯管大師林建寬教授同埋齊藤健太先生。佢哋喺音樂會精湛嘅演出，確實令到觀眾聽出耳油，我哋亦要多謝音樂會另外兩位薩克斯管獨奏者郭彥彤小姐同埋王逸懷先生再加上喺譚子輝先生帶領下嘅香港愛樂室樂管樂團，佢哋當晚嘅演出絕對贏盡觀眾嘅掌聲。除咗音樂會嘅表演，林教授同埋齊藤先生所指導嘅大師班確實令到所有演奏者獲益良多。希望所有演奏者能夠利用呢次大師班學到嘅知識繼續增進自己。

呢度我要再一次感謝整個工作坊嘅團隊。每一次嘅工作坊如果冇咗佢哋，根本唔可以成功。儘管工作團隊所有人都有好多其他事務，佢哋依然毫不計較，貢獻出佢哋寶貴嘅時間，真係無言感激。

最後我當然要感謝所有嚟欣賞音樂會同埋參與大師班嘅各位觀眾。冇咗你哋嘅支持，我地唔會有動力繼續舉辦唔同類型嘅薩克斯管活動。希望你哋能夠繼續支持香港國際薩克斯管工作坊，我哋一定繼續舉辦多啲唔同嘅音樂活動俾大家欣賞同參與，我哋有機會再見！

The Hong Kong International Saxophone Symposium has come to an end with the completion of the master class last Saturday. To organize HKISS this year is really not easy but thanks to the support of everyone, this was being held smoothly and was definitely a great success.

First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to the two distinguished saxophone masters, Professor Chien-Kwan Lin and Mr. Saito Kenta, who travelled all the way to Hong Kong and conducted the symposium for us. Their brilliant performance at the concert truly captivated all the audience. I also would like to thank the other two saxophone soloists, Ms. Scarlet Gouk and Mr. Calvin Wong together with the Hong Kong Chamber Wind Philharmonia under the baton of Mr. Victor Tam whose performances on the concert night undoubtedly earned thunderous applause from the audience.

In addition to the concert performance, the master classes led by Professor Lin and Mr. Saito were invaluable for all the performers. I hope all the performers can continue to improve themselves by applying the knowledge they gained from this master class.

Moreover, I must reiterate my gratitude to my entire HKISS working team. Without them, the symposium could not have been such a success and well recognized by the faculty. Despite their own busy schedules, they selflessly contributed their precious time and effort. I am truly grateful to all they have done which made HKISS such a wonderful event.

Finally, I would like to thank all the audience who came to the concert and participate in the master class. Without your support, we would not have the motivation to continue organizing different types of saxophone activities. I hope you will continue to support the Hong Kong International Saxophone Symposium and we will definitely continue to host various music events in the future. Looking forward to seeing you again !
