Athens International Guitar Festival

Athens International Guitar Festival Founded by Costas Cotsiolis in 1978, the festival was originally held every July in the Greek city of Volos under the name Volos International Guitar Festival.

1978 • Founded as "Volos International Guitar Festival" by world-renowned classical guitarist Costas Cotsiolis

2023 • Relocated to Athens Over the years, it established itself as one of the most significant guitar festivals worldwide, attracting students, guitar enthusiasts, and world-renowned artists. In its 37 editions so far, and under the artistic directi

on of Costas Cotsiolis, more than 9,000 students have participated in its seminars, masterclasses, and competitions, alongside approximately 400 distinguished guitar professors and acclaimed soloists. Many now-established guitarists began their international careers as young prodigies at this festival. Since 2023, the festival has continued its legacy as the Athens International Guitar Festival, relocating to the Athens Conservatoire, Greece’s leading music institution. Its recently renovated facilities provide the ideal setting for an immersive artistic experience. The Athens International Guitar Festival logo, inspired by elements of musical notation, was designed by George Tsialas.
